Yeah... wearing an item that makes you blind doesn't work for roleplaying as someone who's blind... If you take it off, you're no longer blind... But if it's a potion, you can roleplay natural blindness...
The beauty of roleplaying is that you don't actually have to ascribe a character's blindness to the means by which you get it in game -- just like a character blind from birth would not drink a potion to achieve this either.
A potion that bestows irrevocable blindness can unintentionally ruin someone's save. I'm not going to put an item like that in the game, but if you want to then I look forward to seeing your mod release.
I got the message: you don't want it to be a potion.... I'm not trying to start a fight with a mod author about their own mod.... Even though I have reasons for making the suggestion, I do appreciate the time and effort you put into making the mod....
I love this idea! But it could it maybe be underwear so it doesn't take up an important equipment slot? Edit: Silly me, I just realized I don't think underwear can have effects. In which case, I second the potion idea as an option.
If I do it as a potion, it will really truly will not be undoable. I don't want to put something into people's games that could actually ruin a whole save by accident.
The ring could give a spell that grants blindness if you don't have it and removes it if you do have it, though you would have to trust the player wouldn't abuse that.
