Cool mod. Its an interesting flavor enforcement/change that makes the class feel a lot more in line with its flavor in BG3. I was already doing this myself, though the base druid clothing has metal on it so the definition of metal armor was, debatable. Solved by the tag existing on a code level it seems. Reminds me of the mod that changes Oathbreaker smites to Necrotic. Some things just feel right even if they are technically not how the game works.
So, uh. I can't seem to wear the Ironwood Breastplate without issue. I would suggest you add that armor as a 'safe' one, please. I have fond memories of Druids wearing Ironwood armor of one sort or another in lots of editions!
It's in the base game; it's just made *accessible* with various mods that interact with 'cutting room floor' sort of unplaced or unused equipment. There's several mods that do that, I believe.
Larian helpfully tagged metal items as metal, so I just check for that (and borrowed the existing logic for Heat Metal's detection of metal armor). Unfortunately they didn't bother doing this for helmets or gloves, so I just made this mod apply for armor & shields.
Yeah I don't think it'd be worth it, probably Larian thought the same hahaha Also, I think the odds people are running modded items with this mod are big, so having 100% adherence to the system would be nearly impossible nonetheless.
The good news about modded items is 99% of people will inherit properties from a basegame item, which will include the metal tag, so this mod should work with most modded armor/shields
Per 5th edition rules, "Druids will not wear armor or use shields made of metal".
IDK if you’re aware, but that sentence is one of the most hotly debated things in DnD. The general consensus seems to be that “will not” doesn’t meant “cannot”, and a Druid can in fact decide to do it anyway.
But as usual, the last word is with the DM; which is kind of the same thing as a BG3 player deciding (not) to use this mod :)
Oh yeah I found a lot of debate on that lol. Personally I'd rule it as they can't anyway, since no other class has something like this and I think it's thematic.
One way I've seen it run is that a given druid "can" still wield metal items, but doing so runs the risk of being labeled an apostate or heretic and being shunned as an outcast by their circle. Have it be a taboo.
though of course it's not something that really could be implemented in BG3, unless there's a way to remove the druid tag for dialogue only while wearing applicable items
For now, anyway. OneDnD removed that limitation so when the new books come out that'll be gone. On the other hand, they also don't get medium armor anymore, so it's definitely not a buff. I imagine metal armors were all medium or heavy in the first place.
That was the hope lol. I was reading some part headcanon/part lore stuff and decided this was a pretty good solution. Though I should probably break Wild Shape too tbh.
but wild shape shouldn't have the buffs of the shields, so technically your naked when in wild shape? Well in the dnd world I think it's an all-rounder. #Lore (But do correct me if I'm wrong! ^,^)

Mods are basically homebrew after all.
What logic did you use to know if an armor or shield is made of metal of not?

(No offense intended I just mean that my modlist is very fragile as is most people's nowadays)
