I had this working the first time, but after a crash the chat is gone while other mods seem to be working. I suspect that the window is offscreen and I am unable to access it. I went as far to completely reinstall the game and mods, but the problem persists.
Could you tell me where the settings are saved locally so I can remove it and hopefully fix it by resetting the mod to the default settings?
Edit: settings (.json file) found in AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Script Extender\Data. Deleting it restored my settings. Leaving it up if someone else gets this problem lol
The text box appears just fine, but when I input dialogue, the sentence no longer hovers over the head of my Tav after I hit enter. Also new: BG3MM now complains of a "GustavX" error. Maybe that's not related to this mod, though.
*What are some possibilities for why this isn't working? *Where should I look?
Also: *Where in the load order should it sit? Perhaps this is why it is only partly functional for me
Thanks for this! I love it so much [when it works]. [Also, I am still on patch 7. This error appeared only after I downloaded a newer version of this mod, the uninstalled it and reverted back. But it did not restore functionality.]
EDIT: I looked around a bit, and found there were two places a "BG3-Text-Chat" folder was installed:
Is this correct? Should this be in both locations?
Also new: BG3MM now complains of a "GustavX" error. Maybe that's not related to this mod, though.
I use this mod for personal RP, and not while connected in co-op/multiplayer, so that's some additional context, if it matters ;]
The newest patch actually shouldn't be patch-dependent. But if it was working for you before, then yeah stick with whichever version was working before.
I noticed that it seems like you're using Vortex to manage mods (based on your __folder_managed_by_vortex file), but also you mention BG3MM? The modding community recommends just using BG3MM as it's more robust and specific to BG3. I'm not sure what happens when you try to use two mod managers.
The two folders named BG3-Text-Chat are correct. No need to worry about two folders in different locations! That's good expected behaviour.
You mention that BG3MM complains about GustavX error. That could be the culprit. GustavX is patch 7 (I believe. Or something similar.) If you're getting errors with Gustav X, I'd recommend actually looking for help with that in the BG3 modding discord or the official BG3 discord. The transition to patch 7 was a rough one because Larian Studios changed a bunch of things about how stories and mods are loaded (GustavX is actually one of the bigger reasons why) and so you will probably solve the text chat bug if you can solve the GustavX error. I'd also recommend only using one mod manager (preferably BG3MM)
Also, load order doesn't matter for this mod! So place it wherever you feel like it :)
Thanks for making this, but damn the settings text description and setup to resize window is the most messed up crap I've ever seen in 20 years of gaming. IT'S HOLD MIDDLE MOUSE BUTTON + *HOLD* LEFT CLICK at same time while dragging far to resize the window (for people coming here to figure out and see fast lol).
Amazing mod! Unfortunately people need to download script extender in order for it to work so its very hard to find players to join public lobby. I am still baffled that they havent implemented a text chat in a game where I can join random player lobbies. EU game devs are whack man Also if anyone is interested in a game with this mod enabled add me on this discord muze7.
Hi, i noticed youre very active in replying to comments. Your mod is posted in the mod manager for bg3 and i downloaded it but no chat window shows, my buddy who was playing with me says he has the chat window and can type but it doesnt get sent anywhere nor can i see it. i know you had said in a previous comment to someone you need some files or applications to make it work but they arent on the bg3 mod manager so im kinda lost, my knowledge toward mods is minimal but id love to get it figured out.
I downloaded it through Steam and while the chat window is there and works, I'am unable to move it. There is no settings button nor any ability to drag it to a better spot.
Also, did you download the mod through the in-game mod browser, or did you use the steps outlined in this mod page on Nexus Mods to install it?
Lastly, could you send a picture of what it looks like? Either imgur or DM me on here, or whichever is easiest for you! Just so I can get a better picture of what it looks like for you

It's so tiny, I have a 1440x900 screen. 19"

You're probably missing the Script Extender
I have a 4k monitor now! So that means I'll be able to properly debug 4k text chat! There should be no more 4k issues soon!
