The description page is already complex, then you take a look at the files page and you get confused. Worsened by the fact that it seems like you did everything in your power to make players go crazy about what they have to do.
It gets worse because if you check the optional files, you actually start to think that the files are alternative of each other, while they are not.
So, renewed instructions. Get "the picture standard weidu with all options". It contains everything you need.
I've been trying out one of the currently maintained mod install tools 'EE Mod Setup Tool' (a fork of Big World Setup, which is now obsolete). Unfortunately, the old direct download link for The Picture Standard no longer works, so the automated download and install function fails. Which is a shame, as the automation is very helpful for beginners. It would be fantastic if, in addition to Nexus, you would be able to again host it somewhere with a direct download link.
OMG thank you so much for this! I had just installed EET for the FOURTH TIME IN A ROW (wasnt working 2 times because of effin steamfolder sneakingly adding overrideprotection after I deactivated it....!!!) and had accidentaly replaced the portraits by some subpar shit....I already feared I would have to go through the whole installation AGAIN (it takes literally HOURS!!!) because I cant play this game with buttugly portraits, especially not for your loyal companions! But thank god....there is your mod! With all the original artwork, sharpened up to look even butter, with BG1 and BG2 original content to restore what I had lost! OH THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THAT!!! =)=)=)
Hi! It's nice to see some people are still using at least a bit of my ancient portrait work. It would be ideal if you could credit me (and everyone else! for the images on your description page, but it's an old game, your readme is pretty long anyhow, and I'd hope you did in the portrait readme anyhow. So if you did, thanks. If you didn't, for shame. The rest of you can find my (old edition, not EE) portraits on DeviantArt here:
Great to see this fantastic and must needed mod over here now.
One question however are you sure on the location for these portraits? I know back before the Enhanced Editions portraits did go into the override folder but now,

" THE "PORTRAITS" FOLDER
In order for your portraits to show up in BG:EE, you must place them in an specific folder, named "Portraits" (without quotes). This folder is not created when the game is installed, so you must create it yourself.
2.1 Where to create your "Portraits" folder
On Windows: go to your User(s) folder. You know, the one that has My Music, My Pictures, and so on. Now follow this path: My Documents > Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition. That's where you must create your Portraits folder."
Principly, it doesn't matter for BGEE or BG2EE, you can use either. For BG1, BG2 and for Tutu and whatelse however you'll have to use the override.
However!!!!!!!! If you install a mod like BG1NPC it will place pictures in the override folder. So if you put my pics into the "Picture" folder they won't show for BG1NPC because these are overwriting them, since they are in the override folder.
So back to the question, it does matter. If you want to use this mod and enjoy your eyesight a little longer, place them like in the description into the overide folder, overwriting the pics from other mods.
So the hierarchy from lowest to highest is:
game files portrait folder override
Cheers!
P.S. I use the portraits folder for pics I want to use for my characters. That seperate folder helps in maintaining an oversight. As many mods also edit followers you probably want to make sure, that the ones you want to use are in the override folder.

Do the two similar mods complement, override or conflict with each other?
The Picture Standard doesn't any portrait at "random", just NPCs, PCs and NPCs of some mods.

Install component [Main]: lore alternative.
Install component [followers]: vanilla
You are done.
