AstroTech Consortium is pleased to present its new product line of ships for the Astrox sector - the ATC Ship Pack.

AstroTech Consortium (ATC) is a conglomerate of several smaller companies united by the goal of becoming part of the ever-expanding market for spaceships in the Astrox sector.

As part of the Consortium, these companies retain their identity and autonomy, giving them almost complete freedom to make the final decisions on the design of their products. This approach is reflected in the overall appearance of the consortium's product line, which offers several distinctive styles. Each style is characterized by a unique preference for shape, color, and purpose.

We would like to address the false rumors claiming that we are selling ships to the Raiders. These rumors are entirely untrue and are an attempt to harm the reputation of our company. Any evidence supporting these claims should be regarded as either coincidental or part of a deliberate campaign against us.

OVERVIEW

ATC Ship Pack v.0.3/v.0.3a offers the following features:

  • 14 new ships have been added to the pack, for a total of 74 custom ships.
  • Existing ships have undergone numerous small changes and improvements, including a reduction in parts count, while preserving their unique silhouettes.
  • The ship file has been updated, removing old and unused lines to ensure better compatibility.
  • The ship file layout has been revamped, organizing information and stats into categories for easy editing.
  • Ship stats have been completely reworked, drawing inspiration from the concept behind my eXperimental mod design and adapted for vanilla gameplay.
  • The ship pack now includes brand new custom textures that significantly enhance the ship visuals.
  • Internal lights and engines are color-coded based on the ship type, providing improved visual feedback.
The key focus of v.0.3/v.0.3a is how ship type, not just ship class, impacts the ship's stats and usage. While vanilla ship stats may vary, there is a general idea of stat progression and scaling. ATC Ship Pack follows this general class stat progression but introduces stat modifiers based on the ship type.

This approach serves two purposes:

  • Firstly, it ensures consistent general ship stat progression based on ship class. Every stat number is calculated using spreadsheets and formulas, similar to what I have done in my eXperimental mod, but adapted here for vanilla compatibility.
  • Secondly, stat modifiers based on ship type introduce enough diversity and variety so that no ship can be considered the ultimate ship, excelling in every aspect. Different ship types require distinct approaches to equipment and gameplay strategies.

While this concept is not entirely new and ATC Ship Pack had previously implemented it to a certain extent, it was done with "caution", resulting in less noticeable differences between ship types within the same class. In v.0.3/v.0.3a, this approach has been revised, and now switching between two different types even within the same class can result in a completely different play style.

ATC ships, both individually and as a pack, are not designed to be overpowered. I personally strongly oppose the concept of a ship that can flawlessly handle all activities in the game or serve as the ultimate ship from beginning to end. The intention behind ATC Ship Pack is to
provide a diverse range of ships with their own strengths and weaknesses.

However, I welcome any feedback regarding the overall balance of the Ship Pack, whether you provide it here or on Discord (@Dragonslayer).

The Ship Type Multipliers in v.0.3/v.0.3a were calculated using ArquebusX's Astrox Imperium Ship Stat Generator tool. More information about this helpful tool can be found here: here.

OPTIONAL v.03a

This optional download will add color to the ship type text and make all ATC ships more easily discoverable in the Shipyard and make your search easier when looking for a specific ship type.

Both v.0.3
and v.0.3a options are identical. The only difference is the added color for the ship type text in 0.3 and the ship textures are slightly darker. Check the screenshots for reference.

- there is a minor issue with v.0.3a - you can't be able to sort ATC ships by type in Ship Editor or Shipyard.

Choose only one of the two options and install only that one

Old info:

This is my custom ship pack of (for now) approximately 50 ships for the Astrox Imperium game. In this pack you will find almost all classes of ships except the Escort class, as well as different purpose ships - for direct combat, drone support and drone mining, transport, ECM support, stealth oriented ships, etc.

Proper scaling:
One of my main goal was to give the ships proper scaling according to their class so that the player could feel this sense of progress when he paid a solid amount for his next ship, and it is not only with better stats, but also bigger and with more interesting view. All ships have correct scaling according to their class, so you should not fly a Battlecruiser that is the size of a Frigate (and vice versa). This just doesn't look right. Your new and expensive Destroyer should no longer be the same size as your mercenary's Frigate. I feel that this heavily affects the sense of immersion and progress in the game, and I've tried to give each class the right scaling.

Regarding the balance:
I have tried to follow the distribution of statistics, the number of active, passive and drone slots close to that of the vanilla game, relative to the averages of each ship class. When you compare several different ships of one class, you will see that their statistics are close in value.

The differences come from a few additional distinctions that I have applied. First, each ship class has up to three tiers - Standard, Advanced and Heavy. Each subsequent tier has slightly better statistics than the previous one and is slightly more expensive. Accordingly, in order to fly a higher tier of a certain class, you will need to have learned the appropriate skill level:
Standard = level 1
Advanced = level 2
Heavy - level 3
You can think of this as some kind of "horizontal" progression.

In addition, the purpose of each ship is of great importance for the distribution of statistics. Ships that are designed primarily for direct combat have few or no drones, but enough active and passive slots, as well as various bonuses to enhance their role. The ships, which are designed mainly for drone warfare or drone mining respectively, have many drones and corresponding bonuses, but significantly fewer active slots.

Transport ships have a large cargo, the corresponding bonuses and additional passive slots, with which you can expand their capabilities to the limit, but few active slots and less energy, and you will find it difficult to use them as replacements for mining ships. Mining ships, on the other hand, have less cargo than transport ships (but still much more than combat ships of the same class), a large bonus to LS systems and additional bonuses that make them very suitable for the purpose for which they are intended.

Despite all the efforts on the balance, I'm far from thinking that this is the best that can be achieved, but from what I've tested I would say that this ship package does not interfere with the vanilla balance (in case you want your game as close as possible to the Dev's original idea)

Installation
:
1. Copy the contents of the archive in ...\Astrox Imperium\Astrox Imperium_Data\MOD folder.

a. This update will replace all previously downloaded ships from ATC Ship Pack v.0.2.
b. Any changes introduced in v.0.3/v.0.3a will not be automatically applied to previously purchased ships. These ships will continue to use their original textures and stats unless you manually edit their ship files.

These ships will populate your new game over time, but if you want to manually add a ship to your current game, use Kjell's excellent guide here Modding with Kjell
