I know this is old but in case anyone else comes here later; I had this issue too using the latest reshade version. Ended up downloading the older version listed in the description at here and its been working and looking great.
Thanks for this and apologies for the newb question, but when I select the preset from within the reshader, should it drop into the list below? I'm not sure if it's activating in my game
No, after you download and install Reshade, you have to drop the files from this mod into the AC Valhalla root folder. From there in game, you can open the Reshade menu with the Home key and select the drop-down menu at the top to find the Wanderer's Tale INI.
When installing the reshade we get a massive list of effect packages options, standard and sweetfx are checked by default do we install with Sweetfx or any of the other packages?, also my keyboard doesn't have Num pad keys is there any other way to turn off the black borders?
Keep both standard and sweetfx checked. I also usually check the legacy effects at the bottom just in case for older reshade presets. It won't hurt to have everything installed anyway.
To open the Reshade menu, it should be linked to the Home key from where you can turn off the Border effect by clicking the checkbox

I could be wrong but couldn't get the reshade to work, looks like its a great reshade tho
