Thanks for all the work you did on your Alice mods W0lfe1111 there incredible, Have Endorsed. Tips/Tweeks [Disable PhysX from Alice]AMD/Intel GPU's (Im running a 5700XT so this is vital.) In [AliceMadnessReturns/Binaries/Win32] Find & Rename PhysXDevice.dll to PhysXDeviceDISABLED.dll This will fully disable Nvidia PhysX which is a pain for AMD/Intel users on these older Unreal Engine 3 games. Had the same Issue with Arkham Asylum but atleast that gave you the choice to completely disable it!
Also you need to set the PhysX to low in the game menu to disable world PhysX. Set every other setting to on or as high as you can for the best quality experience. Goodbye to those drops to 17fps! [Modify the default FPS Settings]AliceMadnessReturns/AliceGame/Config/ find DefaultEngine.ini Open it and under [Engine.Engine] Locate the MinSmoothedFrameRate=22,MaxSmoothedFrameRate=31, I am running my monitor at 75hz, 1080p, I changed the 22 to 60, And the 31 to 75 limiting it at my Max Refresh rate. So my fps will now be 75fps and if running into trouble can drop to as low as 60fps if needed. Also Disable subtitles in Game settings when using [Alice Madness Returns Upscaled] Tweaks/Tips Are best used in Conjunction With the following mods for the best experience possible!1.No-Intros Videos fix2.Alice Madness Returns Cutscenes Upscaled make sure its (W01fe1111 version)3.Alice Madness Returns Upscaled4.Loading Screen Upscaled
In AliceGame/Config/DefaultEngine.ini (Open/Edit)Find:AmbientOcclusion=TrueFind GIsSpecialPCEdition=TRUE, Set them both to true the AmbientOcclusion makes a huge difference! and the other setting unlocks some dlc outfits and weapons in the menu.
hi! firstly, thank you so much for this mod. i haven't tried it yet, but i'm really excited to see the enhanced graphics cos the bugginess and uneven textures really bother me.
i see that you uploaded a revised version of the file in March of this year due to black spots when upscaled to 4K, is that still as complete as the file you posted on Archive, or is it incomplete, not just less upscaled? i cancelled the download from Archive cos it's over 20GB with a lot more items and saw that there's a revised version on here, but just realised the download file here only has 11 items totalling around 9GB.
please let me know if i'm supposed to download the big file from the Archive link you posted to one of the other commenters below! much appreciated x
edit: also, do I need to run the TFC program every time I want to play, or is it a one time thing? i saw the description say i didn't have to do it every time, but i tried launching it twice in a row and the second time it sort of reset? myb im doing sth wrong. sorry for all the questions, i'm very new to mods!
It has been a minute since i worked with it, The one on Archive is 4k and the files should be the same as the one on nexus, just not as upscaled. If you use a download manager (Like free download manager) it should download much quicker from archive.
If i remember you do not need to do the tfc installer everytime you may need to have it open. But I dont think you even need to do that because im pretty sure it "updates" the textures within the game. TFC installer is not my mod though so i cant be 100% sure, but when i used it thats how it worked for me.
Sorry it took so long for me to respond if you need anything please let me know and ill try to fix it or help you as soon as i can!
hey could you try this https://archive.org/details/AMRupscaled it's the original place I had the files uploaded and I had to do weird stuff to the files for it to be on here, Doesnt help that this game is very picky, I'm working on a fix rn, if you use the archive.org i recommend using a download manager such as free download manager. It takes me about 30 mins to download it this way. Ill get back to you if i get an update
yeah I believe that when I made a patch to the subtitles it broke the textures I uploaded, Ive decided to restart from scratch leaving the subtitles out from the start, hopefully making the file smaller and allowing it to look even better. Thank you so much for installing and if you have any questions reach out, and I just noticed that your the one that made the bug report, lmao, Ill try to get to that on the free time I have, College has me quite busy.
Yeah, I've contacted the Nexus mods moderators and they should fix it, its something to do with how ive uploaded it if youd like to look ive uploaded this to internet archive if you want to look at the files within the .rar file, the only difference between the two different versions is this has fixed subtitles and the internet archive doesn't have any.
https://archive.org/details/AMRupscaled just click on show all files on here then at the bottom MyMod.rar (size 25 GB) click view contents and thats all of the mod!
and i just uploaded it to ModDB (This one has been authorized and is the same as the file on this website just be sure to follow the instructions on moddb they are a little different since its one file and not 3)
Everything outside of the MyMod.rar is not what i uploaded on internet archive that is added by internet archive, The only files in my mod is .tfc, .TFCMAPPING, and .xml
I really wish there was a mirror for this. I really want to try it out but Internet Archive is so painfully slow. Chrome says 32 hours and I have gig internet. :(
hey, I just tried mega.nz if you have any other good mirror websites let me know. I have updated it to have the fonts fixed, please test it and let me know.
This is a classic for sure. Thanks for doing this and thanks to @zombracarios for doing the fonts. Wish I could try it but poor ol Internet Archive is just too slow. I feel like it's 1990 or something...chrome says 20 hrs on fiber LOL Please consider another mirror?

So, do we have any idea WHY the subtitles get messed up from this mod? If we don't have a definitive reason, it seems like there should be some way to exclude them from the textures affected by this mod and just leave them as default or something. I've tried poking around all the config files to find some solutions, similar to another guide that tweaked the font size in AliceEngine.ini by changing the lines to LargeFontName=EngineFonts.LargeFont SubtitleFontName=EngineFonts.LargeFont and that worked to increase the subtitle size when playing at 4k. I have no leads on why this texture mod even affects the subtitles, so if anyone has ideas, I'd be interested to know. I'm willing to put in some effort if I know which direction to head in.
I don't have Alice but i made the modding tools, as well as a HD texture pack for Dishonored (like Alice, it's an unreal engine 3 game). From my experience, it's a bad idea to uspcale all the textures in an UE3 game without manually filtering out some of the textures first. The engine uses textures as fonts, with all the alphabet and digits on a sigle textures. My guess is it then uses absolute coordinates to get a specific character, but that doesn't scale with the texture size. And so the fonts are messed up. I'm guessing this is what's happening here?
If that's the case the proper way to do this would be to re-generate the texture pack without the fonts textures. Basically deleting a few dds files from the mod source files and re-click generate texture pack. Another way to do this would be to generate a texture pack with just the original fonts texture, and install that over this mod. that would restore the original fonts textures and fix the problem (if it's indeed what's happening here (I don't have the game so I can't check).
Also to reply to some earlier comments, its not just the textures that can be modded with UPK Explorer. We added support for editing the properties of all objects in the game, as well as the ability to swap static and skeletal meshes between packages (so for example you could swap the default alice mesh for another alice mesh). We're also working on fbx export/import so mesh edits will probably be supported in the future.
Based on the information provided by FCH823, I've created a small patch that replaces the font textures with the original ones, and it seems to fix the problem. I did this quickly, so it would be ideal to run some tests to ensure that some textures can be scaled without causing additional issues.
Awesome, that seems to have worked perfectly for me! Thanks to both of you two for your efforts. I love the textures, but the lack of subtitles was sometimes an issue with their heavy British accents (if I had any background noise). Your patch gave me the best of both worlds, that's excellent!
I've noticed this build stops some .tpf files from working with TextMod. For instance I have some favorite dress and weapon mods that no longer load .Any insights?
thanks for the mod was wondering a bug where the cat has no textures at all and sometimes running into voids or seeing void sparkles. i downloaded the 25 gb file as told. where there other flies i missed? was it just one download on the link? i saw the download options and wasnt sure which one so i only clicked on RAR and moved on with the steps.

Also I don't see any changes after all this. Main menu looks the same for example. And backup folder size is 8 Mb...
Btw, in this version I have "subtitles bug", but that's fixable AFAIK.

I take it you're able to modify textures and sounds? Anything else? The TFC modpage isn't too clear about its full capabilities.
