I finally had the chance to play the game with the new FMVs, and they look great!
Just one bug to report in Special Episode 2: The Writer. During the session with Dr. Hartman, there's that message from Alice that plays through the office windows. The sound plays fine, but there's no visual. Not sure if it's just my computer, but thought I'd put it out there, just to see if it's reproduceable.
Also, I took a look on the Alan Wake Tools github, and it looks like someone's already upscaled the game's textures. They just have to figure out how to repack them so the game will display them correctly.
This mod breathes new life into the game. I love it!
Also, thanks for the bug report! it's not you, indeed it doesn't play, I had no idea that this cinematic failed at that point in the story, in these days I will add a small update to fix this little bug.
And yes, I knew about that GitHub conversation, I also tried and tested rescaling textures with that method, but as they said in the conversation, there is still no way to make the textures display correctly. I don't know if they will continue to develop the tool or if the project is abandoned, if so, it's a shame. It would be really nice to rescale all the textures of the game and give a new life to the original Alan Wake.
Awesome, looking forward to the update. Definitely going to check that scene out again to see it in its upscaled glory.
Yeah, the Alan Wake tool definitely seems pretty quiet. Does the Northlight Engine Archive Tool show any more promise? Time will tell, hopefully sooner rather than later.
I just uploaded the fixed cutscenes! I upscaled them from 128x128 to 1024x1024, although the sharpness improvement isn't that big.
For all the TV cutscenes in the mod, I directly used the FMVs from Alan Wake Remastered, which bring much better quality (it's the same resolution jump from 128x128 to 1024x1024). It's strange that those FMVs didn't work for Alice's cutscenes in the first place, but anyway, here they are fixed now.
I had the chance to check out the fix, and it works great. The scene plays just fine now.
I also noticed the presence of the Remastered version of "Quantum Suicide." I thought that was a really nice touch! When I played, the TV show in the lodge was the Verizon/ Mercedes commercial. Did you intend for the new Night Springs episodes instead? I'm fine with it either way, I just wondered since you mentioned using the Remastered TV episodes.
I'm really hoping NeAT can help get some upscaled textures into the game. If only raytracing was possible too ... hehe. Oh well, can't ask for too much. Again, loving this mod so much. It definitely makes the original version of Alan Wake the best one to play on PC.
I'm really glad you liked it! Replacing the Mercedes commercial wasn't actually my intention, I honestly didn’t even realize it at first, although when I revisited that area once, I did feel something was different. And yes, hopefully the available tools will get updated in the future to open up even more possibilities for the modding community.
Thank you so much for your support throughout this project, it truly means a lot!
Such amazing work! It takes my breath away, it looks so good.
I understand that you might not want, or be able to take the time, but I'd love to see what great work you could do with the FMVs from American Nightmare. Whether you do or don't though, thanks for your amazing work on this. Looking forward to enjoying the game all over again.
Hello friend! Thanks for the message and your support! I appreciate it a lot! And answering to your request, I tell you that you are in luck! Some time ago, while I was making the cinematics of the main game, I took some time and in parallel I made the American Nightmare ones. And believe it or not, there is not that much difference between the rescaled and the normal ones. The original American Nightmare cinematics are in 1080p, and in this case, the jump to 4k is less noticeable. That's why I forgot about them a bit. But don't worry, give me a day or two to prepare the mod page and everything, and I'll be uploading them. Greetings and enjoy the mod! 😎
Hello my friend! I just uploaded the rescaled American Nightmare cinematics mod! It took a little longer than expected, because I redid the main cinematics of the game, with a newer version of Topaz Video AI, and it looks better than before! There are two versions of the mod available, the ones I had originally rescaled, and the new ones I was rescaling! Although I recommend the newer and heavier version because it is the one with the best quality! I hope you like it! Greetings! 👋 Alan Wake's American Nightmare Remastered Cutscenes at Alan Wake's American Nightmare Nexus - Mods and community
Thank you, my friend! I’ll consider it, but I can’t make any promises. This project took me some time and resources consumption due to the large number of cinematics involved. I understand the file sizes are quite large, especially considering that most of the cinematics are under 2 minutes yet still take up significant space. This is mainly because the .bik file format isn’t very efficient in terms of quality/size. So, I focused on quality rather than a result that did not convince me. Originally, this was going to be a personal project, but then I got the idea to share it. So, don’t expect any updates or alternative resolution versions anytime soon. But thanks again for your support, I really appreciate it! ☺

All the best. :)
All the best to you! 💪
