About this mod

Increases all bow units range to 7, and crossbow units range to 6

Permissions and credits
NOTE! This mod is for VANILLA AND DRAGON DAWN!
New mod version for Empires and Ashes DLC is here: Archers range increased Empires and Ashes

It was ridiculous that archers have same movement and shooting range in combat (might as well be melee then) :D
so this mod increases all bow units max base range to 7, and crossbow units max base range to 6.
Base range for maximum accuracy is now 4. Applies to ranged Hero, and enemies also.

Makes your ranged tactical decisions in battle more meaningful, also ranged enemies more of a threat.
Still I think its not overpowered, because same accuracy penalties still apply. That is -20% to hit per tile for bows (over the 4 tile base range which has max accuracy), and -10% per tile for crossbows (for flavor). so on max range of 7 tiles you would have only 30% base chance to hit. (all buffs and debuffs can apply).
In vanilla Ranged units were not on par with melee imho. So this fixes that nicely. It should give you at least one shot until melee enemies come and make carnage to your archers. But with some clever blocking with shield units and terrain use, you can really feel archers impact on battle now.

It does NOT affect any magic ranged attack units or spells range, as they already have other abilities that makes them more useful in combat.

in latest mod version also removed shooting your own units on miss (for bow, crossbow and javelin). that was just lame.

should be compatible with all other mods that dont change exactly the same thing.

unzip file to your "\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Age of Wonders 4\Mods" folder (create one if u dont have)

enable mods in your AOW4 launcher (dowser.exe in game folder)
> playset
> add new playset
> check the "ranged" mod name and play.
if you have more mods, add "ranged" to your existing playset

works on existing saves, tested.
should work on all game versions, as long as these 2 properties (bow and crossbow range) remain in same game file in future patches.
