# dual_skill_progression
## Purpose
Stop abusing Fergit'n Elixer and use this mod instead.
I am not convinced that the system of Attribute levels and skill trees in 7 Days to Die makes sense or improves the game. All of the essential skills needed for every playthrough are split between the 5 skill trees and locked behind expensive Attribute levels that make it take over 100 levels to learn it all. You end up forced into using specific weapon types because of other skills that are important to you, and often end up relying to Fergit'n Elixers to swap between builds.
It seems to me that this can be fixed with a simple change: Keep the attribute system exactly as-is, but also have every skill in every tree eventually unlock based on your player level.
This opens you up to specialize in the Attribute tree of your choice by buying Attribute levels like normal, but as you progress through the game you'll also be able to buy skills in other Attribute trees without needing to buy levels in those Attributes. So you can specialize AND generalize instead of just specializing.
The speed of this progression is determined by which version of the mod you choose to install. All versions are contained in this download.
## Example
For example if you're using the 'lv70-medium' version of the mod, the perk Salvage Operations (and all other perks) have requirements like the following:
- Salvage Operations Level 1: Perception 1 OR Level 15 (always unlocked because of Perception 1)
- Salvage Operations Level 2: Perception 2 OR Level 20
- Salvage Operations Level 3: Perception 3 OR Level 40
- Salvage Operations Level 4: Perception 5 OR Level 55
- Salvage Operations Level 5: Perception 7 OR Level 70
The Attribute level requirements have not been altered from the vanilla game, the player level requirements have just been added.
## Versions
- A21-gentos-dual-skill-progression-lv30-very-fast
- A21-gentos-dual-skill-progression-lv50-fast
- A21-gentos-dual-skill-progression-lv70-medium
- A21-gentos-dual-skill-progression-lv90-slow
- A21-gentos-dual-skill-progression-lv110-very-slow
The level number in the name indicates when the FINAL level of all skills will become unlocked. See the Grease Monkey example above which was done with the 'lv70' version.
## Installation
There are several different versions of the mod in this directory PICK ONE TO INSTALL
Install the ONE of your choosing by copying it into your 7 Days to Die Mods directory
You can open your game and mouseover some unlearned skills to see the new tooltips and verify the mod is working
## Selecting a Version
Some more information to help you pick:
- Purchasing all 10 levels of an Attribute (like Strength) costs 16 skill points
- There are 5 Attributes so it costs 80 points to max them all out, so level 80
- This is without having purchased any actual perks, so it will be level 120+ before you can learn every skill in the game
- This makes it seem to me like the 'lv70' or 'lv90' versions of the mod will provide a good experience without making the game much easier
- Consider pairing this mod with other mods that increase the game difficulty in order to balance things out
## Compatibility
Alpha 21 only
## Changelog
Sep 9 2023: Initial release. Please expect and report bugs.
