   Or one can just use Gwent Plus Plus mod, which does the same. And much more. Honestly, I wouldn't play Gwent without it at this point.

      Gwent Plus Plus is irreversible, so even if you wanted to, you would not be able to go back.

      Yeah that turned me off from it. Any mod that's irreversible means I can't try it out safely.

   Am no expert of course but during the Witcher 2 prologue Foltest says ( and later in the game Geralt echos his words ) that trebuchets are indeed very fatal , have a massive range and can deal immence damage to the enemy however it has a few flaws. Reloading it takes time and it can never land its shot at the same place. So i think they pay homage to that by making it weaker. Then again they may just went on with it regardless.
