It wasn't working for me but I realized that the instructions to "just copy the file 'MOD_RealGoldenDragon.dzip' to the 'CookedPC' folder in your 'The Witcher 2' directory" in the downloaded ReadMe were a little too simplistic. It's not quite that easy.

You need to use Gibbed RED Tools (a separate Witcher 2 Mod) to extract the "MOD_RealGoldenDragon.dzip" file you downloaded with this mod. (Should be as easy as dragging and dropping the .dzip file to the "Gibbed.RED.Unpack" application). The creates a another folder called "MOD_RealGoldenDragon" in the folder you're currently in. Open that folder and you should find the following folder path. "MOD_RealGoldenDragon\characters\monsters\dragon\model" In the "model" folder, you should see two separate files "dragon__c1.xbm" & "dragon__w1.xbm."

These are the two files you need to change the color of the dragon. Cut and past them under the identical folder path in your CookedPC folder. "CookedPC\characters\monsters\dragon\model." You will most likely have a character folder in your CookedPC folder already if you've downloaded other mods but if you don't or only have part of that folder path, simply create the folders you're missing. With your folder path complete inside of "CookedPC", don't forget to paste the two .xbm files from the extracted .dzip in the last "model" folder.
Viola! You're done and you now have a "real" golden dragon.

I always wished someone explained modding to me when I first started like I was a five-year-old. It would have saved me a lot of time and frustration. I hope this helps someone out there looking to install this mod and others like it.

Thank you for the heads up. I was using a megamod of my own , and i needed to "merge" this one with the rest anyways.

In other words: love the new skin, finally i can marvel at the beauty of the design, the vanilla was just too darkened and obscure. Endorsed!

Changes the textures of the dragon to make it look more golden.

Even if she isn't really a golden dragon... uh-oh.

Actually she is a Golden Dragon! Confirmed in one of the game's dialogues. I won't say which dialogue to avoid spoiling the story but you can find the dialogue somewhere around the end of Iorveth Path of Chapter 2 (that's where I am playing right now - when it came up in the dialogue, I laughed and thought about your mod). Feel free to delete the uh-oh comment!

But near the end of act III, assuming you free Saskia of the spell, Geralt comments that she doesn't have a single golden scale on her.

Frankly I don't care what type of dragon she is, but this definitely looks better than the original, nice work man!

A totally agree with this comment !

Whatever she can be, this texture improves the visibility of the dragon's reliefs, making it / her less dark.
The result doesn't shock, and it is even more enjoyable, in my opinion.

    Thank you for this mod.

alright, this is my last comment. i see what you're saying, but i think you're still missing my point. people made mods to add scars or add tattoos because they look cool, this uploader made this mod entirely because he thought a golden dragon, that is not a golden dragon, should appear more golden. it's a completely different situation, and had he been aware of it in the first place, i doubt he would have felt the need to make the mod.

again, there is no disrespect here, to you, or the uploader, it's just constructive criticism, which is the entire point of comments. there is no reason to take down the mod, nor was there ever. it's a mod that makes the dragon appear moderately golden, which is just fine. the posters and myself simply wanted the uploader to be aware that he was slightly mixed up, and there's nothing wrong with that.

sorry for cluttering this discussion up with an internet argument.

    Marcvss, i wasn't saying it shouldn't exist

to put it bluntly, there is no reason for this mod to exist,

    Excuse me?

You best start nitpickin' at the uploader that made the shaman warpaint, the uploader that put extra scars on Geralts face, the uploader that putt tattoo's on Geralts face etc etc aswell then ain't ya?
Cause the books say otherwise ey?

Marcvss, i wasn't saying it shouldn't exist, i was saying that the uploader may not have even felt the need to make the mod had he known that she's not a golden dragon, which is said in the game specifically. it's just constructive criticism, i doubt the uploaded would have preferred not to know, and it's probably not a big deal. i think you're the only one that got offended.

but i'm not posting just to disagree with you, i'm mostly posting because you specifically said you will never read the books. why not? they're really engaging reads. the short story collections are great even for people who don't like reading because you can read them in one session apiece. If you really just dont dig reading in general, i understand, but i still suggest you at least consider the last wish, if you liked the game, you would certainly love the book. it's not a way of life if you both play a franchise's game and read the literature to go with it. unless you dress up as geralt and start mixing crazy plants with your shots of vodka. but even i wouldn't reccomend that.

I have to totally disagree with you. 90%...no way. This game was mostly purchased as the first was...by those who know the lore/books/tv series. Read any of the forums and you will come to understand that.
