Extract the zip File
paste the characters.win.bmd file here:
D:\Games\State of Decay - Year-One Survival Edition\Game\libs\class3\rts Story Mode

D:\Games\State of Decay - Year-One Survival Edition\Game\libs\class3.2\rts Lifeline
or
paste the "Game folder" on the root directory of the "State of Decay - Year-One Survival Edition" game
do not use characters.win.bmd on other modes
like using class3 (Storymode) characters.win.bmd on class.1 (Breakdown) characters.win.bmd or class3.2 (Lifeline) characters.win.bmd
they all have different Data on them
specially if using class3 (Storymode) characters.win.bmd
on class3.2 (Lifeline) characters.win.bmd you will bug the game, you using Marcus in a Black Screem
