That's because you have to manually install it. First, go into stardew valleys content folder (which should be right next to the mods folder) then go to characters > dialogue, then replace the xnb files with those that are in the mod manually, then do the same with the portraits wich are in the portraits folder. when you mean replace, do you mean deleting the existing files and manually putting the knew ones in or can you just put them in the folders without deleting anything?
yeah, this mod pretends it can be installed via vortex mod manager by allowing such option in downloads, but it is actually not packed in such a way for the contents of the downloaded file to unpack correctly, into correct folders. meaning despite 2 given options the auto installation does not work properly, is botched, and your only option to make this mod work is to install it manually. how to do that is described in the mod's description page.

You made some errors in the json file that caused it not to load in SMAPI. I'm not sure when/if you'll notice so i managed to go in and fix it myself. Let me know if you'd like me to remove it! Is there a Content Patcher one for SMAPI, possibly? And if not, would the creator be willing to possibly make one for those of us who want to use this mod? I would love to use this mod!!
This is about a year old now so I'm not sure if it's still updated or if this forum is checked but is there a way to use this without installing a portrait mod with it?

It only adds the Shane marriage dialogue, though, not anything else.
This is a fixed content patcher version, for anyone who wants it^^
