Completely new way to create spell books. There is now a magic extractor, you can craft it in the enchanting table. Use it to extract magic essences from objects/furniture you find while exploring. Use essences to make scrolls. When you have 3 of each scroll required for the book you can craft the book.

There is now smoother use of spells, fizzle is a thing of the past for mistyping spells. The spell book will only switch to another spell if the combination is valid. This way you can't not have a spell prepped. Entering casting mode will clear your spell inputs, but keep your last known proper combination remembered.

This update might not seem like much but 1690 recipes, and 100+ assets were created. Sorry no new spells, or even bug fixes (working on black hole and gust still) but this laid out the foundation for the upcoming multi-spellbooks (the additional 34 spells) and alleviates a ton of frustrations people had with the mod.

I would like to challenge players to make new characters and go through hunting dungeons, and creating their spell books. I find this new method adds a lot more fun. Also the smoothness of casting makes the game play much better.

Also black hole and gust work as intended now.

About this Mod

Arcane Addons is a balanced mod to add magic to the game in fun and interesting ways. It's presently focused on balance for multiplayer use, and all of the healing and buff spells can be cast on fellow players, allowing for support focused characters.

A lot of the spells are buffs, aimed to allow you to do things like explore Asteroids and the moon before Tier 5. Of course, there's some fun damage spells, of quite a variety. Arguably, the movement buffs are the most fun! Damage spells are not meant to overpower anything of that tier... well, that is, not till the last one ;)

It is tabula rasa compatible. Which I suggest if you do not want to make a new character when we update.

How does this mod work, and what is this Magi Tech?

MagiTech is a tech that you equip that turns you into a mage. Hold your spellbook in hand and right click (or press F) to enter casting mode. From there, you have access to all of the spells of the tier of the spellbook.

Spells are now cast by using direction keys. For instance, right (that is, "D") is the spell Magic Arrow. To cast it, you need at least the 1st level spellbook and the tech equipped. Right click to enter casting mode, then press D. It will acknowledge the press with the words Magic Arrow appearing over your head. At this point, you can left click to cast the spell. However, you don't have to! Instead, if you wish, you can jump to exit casting mode. The spell will still be ready to fire - just left click, even if you're jumping around, and the spell will be cast!

Better still, unlike the previous system of modified guns, the spells now level with you. Magic Arrow does 8 damage when holding a level 1 spellbook... but when holding a level 10 spellbook, the damage soars. This way, all of the spells remain useful throughout the entire game. Also, the spells take a percentage of energy, keeping the costs balanced as you progress.

BECAUSE THIS MOD USES A TECH IF YOU UNINSTALL THE MOD ENSURE WHATEVER CHARACTERS HAVE THE TECH ON THEM YOU UNEQUIP THE TECH. IT WILL BREAK YOUR SAVE OTHERWISE.

Notes

As the recipes are tiered, you will either have to start a new character or use previous star maps to unlock the associated recipes. Or the Tabula Rasa works too.

Any planet has a chance to have a core of Blaststone, Obsidian, or Magmarock. So the challenge of making the enchanting table is to travel to planets search their core for obsidian.

Conversely volcanic and magma planets have obsidian on the surface.

Create water must be cast on a surface for some reason collision is required to spawn the water.

A total of 68 spells,currently at 34 and yes we are doubling our spell amount, we have a list and are working on getting them all done. These spells are almost all unique and will not simply be a greater version of something else.

This mod was inspired by Weapons+ and he has granted permission of use of 3 of the spells (Bluefireball, Magic Arrow, Blue Fire Barrage) and the enchanting table.
