Everyone that uses the RS Children version, I mistakenly left a few textures out of the last release. Please download the hotfix if you use either of the RS Children variants.
I know a variety of reasons that might be preventing your gameplay. Here are fixes below. If you have no visual glitches or just want to jump right into it first try, go to where I have written DETAILED EXPLANATION below. I did use commands because that's the absolute fastest way to do it. VISUAL GLITCHES This is most likely due to RSSE Childrens Overhaul 1.1.3 with hotfix 1. I would suggest reinstalling it while trying different options. I would show exactly which ones I choose but I really didn't keep track of it. I didn't think I'd be posting an explanation here. LETTER ISSUES If you're having trouble receiving the letter, right before you expect the courier to see you, save and go to the main menu then continue. That should fix it. This is what I did to get my child ASAP (Load order and mods at the end)
NO CHILDREN I just uninstalled all of my mods, then reinstalled all of them from the web. This only happened when I manually downloaded it and put it in data. I fixed it in this order 1. Disabled all other mods 2. Uninstalled lost child, relationship dialogue, rs children overhaul 3. reinstalled ( in this order) lost child, relationship dialogue, rs children overhaul. 4. loaded it up with a NEW SAVE, immediately went to honorhall orphanage (or wherever theres children ig) to make sure there were still kids.
CHILD WONT FIGHT Don't download the child armor mod from here. Download this one. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/50669?tab=files I don't know about vanilla children, but the RS Children one works, and it made my child fight.
DON'T LIKE MY CHILD'S NAME Select whatever race fits your child's name. Argonian: Geel-Jar Breton = Renwick Dark Elf = Elethus (my favorite) Nord = Kodlur (These are all the ones I have, feel free to add more in the replies) Then, if you don't like the race you chose to get that name, do showracemenu and reselect your original race. If you don't like the way your child looks, download project proteus.
DONT LIKE MY CHILD'S APPEARANCE I downloaded Project Proteus in order to change my child's appearance. First, set the hotfix as playable with sliders, then save it as present. DETAILED EXPLANATION
Start a new game Get inside of a building that allows you to have a loading screen. Type this into console commands Player. setstage FreeformRiftenThane 200 Coc whiterunorigin Setstage ylcquest01 0 Setstage ylcquest01 05 Setstage ylcquest01 10 Check to make sure you have all of them by doing this command ShowQuestStages ylcquest01
I started with alternate lives with a house in riften. If you don’t, find a way to buy it. If this is your first run through of the mod, I’d suggest just picking your gender and name and going to the face sculpter later. After youve made your character, go to honor hall orphanage and make sure the kids arent glitched in any way. Then, put in these commands
Go to your house in honeyside and check the housecarl, id suggest talking through all the options except follow (unless you want them as your follower)
Type in the following Coc whiterunorigin Setstage ylcquest01 0 Setstage ylcquest01 05 Setstage ylcquest01 10 Check to make sure you have all of them by doing this command ShowQuestStages ylcquest01 Make sure stage 0, 05, and 10 are all set to 1, then leave the building. The second you leave the building, save your game (even if it autosaves) and go to the main menu, then continue. The courier should then begin running towards you. I did this inside of the Bee and Barb in Riften, and the courier came from the marketplace to give me the letter. Open the letter, then walk to honorhall orphanage (or type in coc riftenhonorhallorphanage) Voila, your child.

I've been the thane of riften for a few days now and still have not received a letter. I used console commands to become thane, does that affect the mod?
i was impatient and used console commands to become the thane of riften. I have the Blade of the Rift as proof. But ive waited for about an in game week and havent gotten any letters. Has anyone have any tips?
So, I really was fascinated by this mod. But I was really slow to use it because I knew that all of the recurrent bugs mentioned in these threads would take me all day to amend. I did eventually so I wanted to give this guide to anyone else in 2022 who wants to use this older mod.
Do note, I can only give this from the perspective of someone from my modlist. Anyone else outside of that, I am not an experienced modder to be able to answer that. But maybe these fixes would also help your issue.
This is for those who have RSChildren (non-playable version), Relationship Dialogue Overhaul, as well as maybe ‘Run For Your Lives’ installed, and experience the three common problems about the letter never arriving, the child not fighting, and the child not wearing armor:
For the letter never arriving, I hope that it is established that begoming Thane of the Rift is a necessity. Maybe it is better to done get thaned after installing this mod since I do not know how being Thane before this mod is installed would affect the gameplay. But perhaps the following tip would help if you do have that case.
For the letter never arriving, type into console commands exactly this; setstage ylcquest01 5
Then wait or sleep about five days in-game. The courier should reach you after fast traveling some times.
For the child not fighting and you do not have RSChildren Overhaul playable version; then downloading ‘Savage Offspring SKSE’ should fix that issue with no consequences this far. It is likely because the game engine has disabled the ability for children to fight, so Savage Offspring SKSE removes that barrier. For me, reinstalling the playable version of RSChildren did not fix the issue.
As for the child not wearing armor despite having a children armor mod, I noticed that this problem is present specifically (but maybe not only) for Mer children from ‘Aymar and Friends.’ That mod does not have support for armor mods for children. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a fix for that. But the clothing options for children from Aymar and friends is the most one can do to suffice.
You may use console commands and type: help “children’s clothes”
Exactly for that to find the extra clothing options for children. The ‘Children’s Clothes: Wild’ model looks like the fur armor that bandits wear, so that may be close enough.
I hope that was clear enough. As another in these threads have said, this mod is definitely not plug-and-play so the fixes above is what makes it usable for someone with the same mods as I. I hope that it helps anyone else in the same position as I. Take care.
So, I provided some fix suggestions in my previous post below this one to any who have similar mods to mine and need some tips about how to get this mod to work. Now, I’ll leave a review!
Bugs (the common ones being fixable) aside, I really do love the concept of this mod. The main praise that I want to give it is the creative writing that it used to set up how you are reintroduced to your son, as well as the dialogue options provided during reunion. I admire mods that give the player-character a past. At first, I was concerned about how the son is able to shout and how that would affect combat; as it was mentioned that it may actually send you flying in the mod description. But using a detailed follower framework such as Nether’s is able to prevent the shouts from harming you or your party. So it is interesting to RP as a character who isn’t the Dragonborn… but your Son might be.
All in all, great concept with wonderful execution that really gives the game and the player character some depth. The bugs are present, but certainly can be fixable if you’re savvy enough to be able to work with them. I give my endorsement.
