I can confirm with latest edition of Mod Organizer 2 this works. You must place it in both locations for it work properly. Very useful for us lazy people. We could just create our own however this is completely fine to use. it looks like it may be included in septim 2.0 for easier sorting and troubleshooting. everyone should use it
Using 2.0.8.2, i just cannot find your file, or where to put this one for it to work. I have checked everywhere, reinstalled everything, ans still cant find it.
I even made some custom categories hoping that it would cause the file to pop up, but it didnt.
This seems like it would be incredible helpful, but I cannot get it to work....
Hmm, I'm using the same version I had to reinstall everything today....and it's not in my appdata\local\ModOrganizer\SkyrimSE or MO folder either. Something must have changed from the last build. Ok, I figured it out. Just extract the file into your Mod Organizer folder, the one with the EXE in it.(the second picture)
I deleted both files (the one in appdata and the one in Mod Organizer folder), then I copied my file to appdata and it didn't show up, so I copied it to Mod Organizer and it worked. Like I said before, If you are using the portable version, place my file in the Mod Organizer folder. If not place it in the appdata\Mod Organizer\Skyrim SE folder and it should work.
OK! I saw that some changes i made to my custom categories created a categories file in the AppData folder. I changed the name of my file and put your there and I can see your categories.
Unfortunately, they are all over the place and not really in the right spots. Let me show you: https://goo.gl/photos/uhu7a5Zs6DYUmbAv9
Your categories arent very filled in, and where they are, they seem to be completely wrong.
I am in no way blaming you for this, I am just bringing it to your attention since we are trying to work this out.
You have to apply them yourself: Right click, Add/Remove Categories, select proper category. A fast way to add them is to select the first mod in that section, hold down the shift key and select the last mod in that section and then right click...
There is only 2 places it could be. If you are using the standard install, it will be in "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\ModOrganizer\Skyrim(or SkyrimSE)" If you have multiple games, such as Fallout 4, (old) Skyrim....look in the SkyrimSE folder. or if you are using the portable version it will be in folder you install it in, i.e. "I:\Games\ModOrganizer"
I understand and same here. I wasn't worried when you didn't respond, I'm sure keeping up with this guide is a lot of work. (and aren't you working on a website also? geez!) I'm pretty sure that I wasn't the only one messaging you Keep up the good work. If you need help with something let me know, I don't know much but I'll try my best.

Categories won't show up in the Filter box until you use them.
Ok, after some testing, I found that I am definitely using the categories.dat in my Mod Organizer folder. I use the portable version.
I am using the MO 2.0.8.2 that is recommended.
How do I get yours to show up?

I've upload 2 more pictures for reference.
I haven't found any categories.dat file to replace.
%appdata%\Local\ModOrganizer\
It's hidden so you may have to "view hidden files" to find it.

For a better visibility, you'd better put this information in the description
Thanks for your support.
I'm braindead for not thinking of this. But kudos!
I'll throw it in the guide, with a link here if that's cool with you when I get some breathing room tomorrow, if you like.
Been really busy, my apologies.
