I know this is kind of needy, but is there a way to either: change the level requirement to a customer level or: do away with the level requirement and only require the perk investment? I'm running aetherius and all skills start at 5. Either way, I'm super into this mod.

For those curious, I haven't tested in game, but it seems you can modify the perk this mod gives you to change the restrictions.

Am I the only one who is wondering how we will get points in these skills if we don't try using them? I don't want to go without potions and better weapons and armor while I look for a teacher to show me how to do something that trial and error teaches us in the game. Besides were a Hero, not some farm boy who got tired of shoveling horse s*** and just picked up a weapon. Were supposed to have more ability and be better than the average clod, that this mod reduces us to.

Why would you even use this mod then? Not everyone wants to play the hero. Some people want to play an anti-hero where there isn't any main quest, where you struggle to survive thieving and poaching. Some people want to play some farm boy, someone like Luke Skywalker or Frodo Baggins, who literally learned as they went. Rarely is there ever a hero accomplished in alchemy, blacksmithing, fighting, and magic. Not even Conan the Barbarian could do all of those. The only figure I can think of that would even come close would be Elric and he's still no blacksmith.

A real hero would use the Honed Metal mod and let blacksmiths do the smithing, even Conan and Elric would agree on that.

Also study books, even Conan appreciated education. The Train and Study mod, will let you study books on Alchemy and everything else

So it seems that the only way to level Enchanting with this mod installed is to unlock the Enchanting Tree. Is that correct? As far as i can tell, the base game only allows for leveling through enchanting/disenchanting items and recharging enchanted weapons with soul gems. Am I missing something?

      Hello,

I didn`t really understand your question, nothing related to skill/ xp has been changed, it just block the ability to do certain crafting actions unless you have the first perk in enchanting and at least 20 skill points in enchanting. If your race don`t have the required skill value at character creation you`d have to use trainers to get a few lvl ups.

I understand you haven't changed anything related to skill/xp. What I'm getting at is that with the exception of trainers, your mod blocks the only two ways that vanilla allows for leveling the Enchanting skill, ie using the enchanting table and recharging enchanted weapons. This is not a complaint by any means, I just wanted to clarify exactly what I need to do to level my enchanting skill with the tables and recharging disabled and it sounds trainers are the only way. I love the idea, I just wanted to be sure of how the mechanics of the mod work. Thanks.

exactly. so at game start you simply cant craft. you have to do other things to earn money and/or explore and find books. then once you are read up/ trained enough then you can use the crafting stations. you know like in real life. its an immersion issue.

thank you! finally a mod where i have a reason to use honed metal. its really weird that my character for some reason are able to craft stuff. our dragonborn is literally the best blacksmith/enchanter/alchemist in the entire skyrim universe lol

Any chance you can add a version without the extra perk point? I limit myself to 100 right now, and I want to strictly stick to that.

Well, you could delete the script named "basics" from your script folder and when the game start you type in console "help basics" then look for the perk "ale_Perk_Basics" and add this perk to the player with console, this will activate the mod and bypass the extra perk script.

it makes sense, but it shouldn't totally stop you from trying. Why not add a second option to allow the user to craft, but make it so that if their below 20, and lack the required perk, they'd get hurt every time they craft something, perhaps 5 - 20% of max health damaged per item. Yes, there are people out there who have set their skills below 20 by using a mod or bat file.

I dont think that'd be as effective personally. A person would just spam it by waiting it out. I think this mod works good, as like someone else said it either means your character needs to be good at it to begin with or they need to find a teacher and get all the lessons from them.

Personally, it works good with honed metal (but haven't tested if they are compatible) and with immersive speechcraft, the later of which can turn anyone into a vendor.
