Roxahris, you seem pretty knowledgable and on-top of the ways to best balance the look of SSE. What would be the ideal way to preserve and perhaps enhance saturation whilst reducing the terrible black crush?
I realize this post is from 2016 but if anyone still needs the advice: Turn your contrast way down, above all else the contrast setting is responsible dark areas being completely black. (in-game & monitor) If you use Windows, there's a built-in tool you can use from the start menu by typing "Calibrate display colour", It's just a series of comparison images to use while changing your monitor settings but it can really help if you want an idea of what to look for. For the in-game contrast there's a setting in the SkyrimPrefs.ini, I don't know what it's called, but you can tweak it in BethINI. (make a backup of your .ini files BEFORE running it!)
I've found setting contrast as low as possible, even if it over-brightens some things, then tuning the imagespace brightness with this mod or something like darker nights etc. gives a very accurate and deep colour palette.
Any advice on how to reduce the overly bright skin shine/glow on characters when they face sunlight or other bright light sources? I noticed that using the default enbseries effects setting makes the skin glow thing disappear completely, but i don't want to use enb cause it cause my game to lose like 20 fps, and I can barely maintain 40fps in exteriors without enb.
Don't take this as a fact because I haven't actually checked the ELE file, but his script replaces the imagespace values with neutral ones, while my script (and these files) scale them towards neutral values but keep some of the toning. Also, ELE modifies lighting templates. This file tweaks imagespace settings only.
My imagespaces, which only affects interiors, does not handle the lighting changes at all. That is my Lightign Templates that do that.
Imagespaces are there to add in bloom and for end users make some quick changes to the overall interior atmosphere, seperated between interiors and dungeons.
Yeah, you can use these on top of ELE and they'll overwrite the ELE-ified imagespaces with the scaled vanilla ones, while keeping the lighting template changes.
Skyrim.ini under [Display] add this like fGlobalSaturationBoost=0.000 (this is default value if you want more saturation then increase to 0.500 or even 1.0000). Play with this setting till you are happy with result.
Im using CR ReShade addon and i need imagespace modifier 0.10x, problem is when tick the imagespace modifier in the NMM as required my quicksave and quickload stop working lol. Im 100% sure its from this mod because when i disable it all is working as intended.

This solved a water splitting issue with a water mod I was getting.
If I use 0.10x imagespace, there is no water clipping or a split in the distance detail (you can clearly see a seam split with water mods without the use of a custom imagespace) and you get the benefit of the contrast problem that this game inherently has for vanilla imagespace setting. Incidentally, for the vanilla imagespace setting, there is no seam split (ergo, without the use of an imagespace).
I'm a little confused. Can I use this with Realistic Lighting Overhaul and an enb. If yes then do I place this before or after RLO....or does this cancel out RLO? I ask because I tried this in game and with I get overly bright interiors and without it's way too dark. I thought this just affected saturation? Anyway, mainly just concerned about the RLO compatibility.

Although, you know, if you just want more saturation or something, you can just use the parameters in the INI file.

if you use 0.50x imagespace, you get the split.
