For being the outpost of the Emperor's guard on his trip to Skyrim, and besides that, the most strategically important location in Haafingar, I wondered why the town was so small and ill-fortified. I wanted to recreate the feeling Helgen had - arguably the most fortified 'town' of Skyrim. 
Here, we have just that.
This is primarily an aesthetic mod- not to step on the toes of the great JK and his mods (which I still love), but overhauls nearly the entire exterior of the town using high walls, thick gates and imposing towers. I wanted to work on something new, practically a new settlement, but worked with NPC's with unique dialogue, which makes the town feel more alive to me. Included in this:

- A new Player home, Dragon Thane's Tower. You may acquire the key to the very small home from the Executioner's Chest by the hanged former Thane of the town. The tower home itself is cozy, at least, offering only a few weapon racks and storage containers, but suits the needs of a ritzy starter home.
- A new General Goods Store, Memory Gate Goods. 
- Generally a unique feel to the new town, including a Bell Tower! Many other exterior features include more clutter, custom ballistas on the walls, unique static meshes, everything that I thought might beautify the town while keeping it as FPS friendly as possible - including use of occlusion planes.


BellaDovah edits:
  • Fixed the ‘falling through the earth/floor’ bug when entering the General Goods store, you’ll now enter with your feet firmly on the ground just like you’d expect when entering any other door.
  • Fixed the physics on the hanging Thane. I found that he would often spasm all over the place and end up curled up on the ground. I made a couple of changes to him (and the note stuck to the post) to make things stay in place where they should be.
  • Replaced some of the features from Solstheim. Sorry, I know the lanterns are much nicer than the boring old Skyrim ones, but I just couldn’t put up with Dunmer Architecture in the Nordic Capital. So, I replaced the lanterns back to the vanilla ones and removed the Solstheim mushroom.
  • The General Goods Store now opens 8am-8pm and will be locked out of these hours. The Shopkeeper has been given AI packages so that she will stand at the counter during work hours, sandbox in her home after work, and sleep in her bed 12am-8am.
  • Added a new Blacksmith to the outside of the Penitus Oculatus Outpost. The area now has a forge, a grindstone, and a tanning rack as well as the original workbench. A new NPC named Salvatore will work as the Blacksmith here 8am-8pm, and will Sandbox and Sleep inside the Outpost (an extra bed has been added which he owns) out of hours. You will also find levelled items cluttered around the area (ingots, leather, weapons, armor) which he will also sell in his Blacksmith Inventory.
  • Tweaks to Navmesh to avoid NPCs walking into the forge etc.
  • Removed the hostile-looking iron bars from outside the inn and inside the General Goods Store. This is a personal preference choice and I know features like this are found in other popular mods such as JK’s work, but I simply don’t like them.
  • Added lighting and made lights brighter in the General Goods Store and ‘player home’ Dragon Thane Tower. I found these rooms to be simply too dark when using ELFX.
  • The Executioner’s Chest will now be stolen from, I didn’t like that the stuff inside was just free to take including the key to the Tower. So, you now have to take things stealthily if you want to loot and have player home access to the Tower.
  • Decorated the General Goods Store. I replaced the iron bars with a longer counter cluttered with levelled items on sale. You can actually buy these items – they will be in her buying inventory and you will see them disappear from the counter top. I also fixed the fireplace in the back room, before there was earthy terrain spilling over the floor – this is gone now.
  • Made a few other tweaks to the General Goods Store, including adding gold and gems to her strongbox and fixing the ownership on her items.
  • The doors found on the village walls which previously required a key and did not actually lead anywhere have been made into statics which can’t be interacted with. Please note the doors on the front wall can still actually be used to access the top of the wall.
  • Cleaned with TES5edit – Undeleted and Disabled References, Removed ITMs, fixed a deleted Navmesh, and removed the Riverwood Navmesh Wild Edit.
