Vampire black face issues...oye. Alright, from the main page:

Basically, any mod that has an "esp" file that modifies the races is likely to cause a conflict with any non-replacer warpaint mod (mine included).

If you are using a mod that alters the race tab, then that will cause a potential conflict with my mod, which is something I have warned people about as you can see. To add warpaints to the races, you have to do so by adding stuff to the race tabs in an esp file. If your character turns into a vampire, and you want it to use your chosen warpaint, then we have to alter the vampire race stuff. If you use any mod that alters any form of the race tabs in their esp, then a mod conflict can happen, which can cause things like the vampire black face issue.

When I tell people to check for mod conflicts, this is why. It's not a bug, it's a conflict between esp's somewhere.

Below in the stickied posts, I tell you how to get around this. I talk about using replacer tats, I talk about adding the tat of your choice to other esp's, and I also talk about using the RaceMenu version of the mod. All of these are options to getting around conflicts with these warpaints and other mods. I have also added another version of the esp/bsa option, which removes the warpaints from the vampire race tabs altogether.

My flat out recommendation, use the RaceMenu or replacer options, as those are the least intrusive options to use.

**Added this info to the main page as well.

Alright, head's up, but I just started a new game, ran the racemenu version of the mod, and got all of my tats to show up.

So yes, the mod still works, contrary to what others have said.

Sorry gang, I have kind of moved on from this game, but decided to give it another playthrough and maybe beat it this time. Anyhow, install Racemenu as per instructions, install my mod, make sure the plugins are enabled...then do the following, which I have stickied, but will repost:

"If using Racemenu, which is highly recommended, during character creation scroll through the tabs (face, eyes, mouth etc.) till you come to Makeup, there will be a list of warpaints, go to the first option and Press ‘T’ to Choose texture, this will show a window of all facepaint options, scroll down and you’ll come to the WyldTats"

Again, I just did all of this, just added a shiny red WyldTat to my Bosmer...and it all worked.

1/7/19 Update -- To make this mod work properly with ECE, you need to use RaceMenu as well. You will have check elsewhere on just how to make the two mods function with one another, but honestly, RaceMenu overall is the best option to use for this mod, and for ECE users.

1/6/19 Update -- Been out of the modding game for a bit, but I have recently found out that RaceMenu was fully released for SE. The RaceMenu version of the mod is now available for download. Follow the instructions from RaceMenu to get the warpaints to show up in game:

    **Adding Warpaints to Other Mods**

So, how exactly does one get WyldTats to work with pesky mods like RaRe? The easy answer is to use my replacer warpaint instructions. It requires very little work, and basically makes your warpaint of choice work instantly with all of your favorite mods.

Now, for those of you masochists who feel the need to play the game with a unique warpaint that no one else in the game will have when using a conflicting mod...well, read on.

This will require some work on your part, so you have been warned.

For a first hand look at some of these screens in the creation kit and some of what I am discussing below, check out KrimsonLust's tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufZAJbGEwDk

For our purposes, you can skip up to around 5:08 in the tutorial for a look at some of the menu choices.

I do not recommend following her steps exactly, because she shows you how to replace one of the base warpaints, and the idea here is to not replace the base warpaints. I only recommend it, because you can get a good look at some of the menus and features you will be using (regardless, it is a good tutorial). Just follow my steps, and you should be fine.

For starters, you will need the Creation Kit. Google it if you don't know where to get it=P.

Make sure you have the version of the WyldTat mod that has the loose warpaint files installed.

I am going to use the Noiral mod as my example here:

    http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/1745/?

Install the mod, and then open the Creation Kit, and click on the Load Master/Plug in files (the little folder icon in the top left -- your left that is -- corner). Or, you can click File> Data for the same effect.

Once the new window opens, scroll through the options until you see the NoiralSE.esp file, click the box next to it and make sure it is checked, then click the box that says "set as active file", then click "ok".

Hit "yes to all" when it pops up, and then just wait for it to load.

Once that is loaded, look in the "object window", and you will see a list of menus starting with "actor" and so on. You are looking for the "character" menu. Click the plus sign to expand it, and just below the "quest" submenu, you will see a submenu called "race". Click it so it is highlighted, and to the right of that you should see a list of races.

Pick the race you want to add the warpaint to (it should also be noted that you can pick the vampire versions of the races as well for you vampire players), double click that race, and a new menu will open up. Now, choose the sex that you want to add the warpaint to by clicking male or female at the top. Just below that, you will see a list of tabs and some arrows to help you scroll through the tabs. Find the "tinting" tab, and click it.

Alright, look for the section at the top labeled "tint layer". Right click in that section and click "new". A new entry will appear that is labeled as "none". Highlight the "none" entry, and look to the right for a box labeled "choose texture", and click it. Find the tintmask folder under textures, and pick your WyldTat of choice (remember, use male tats for males, and female tats for females). WyldTats are numbered 11 through 80 for both genders.

Select the warpaint you want, and now the "none" entry under tint layer should read as the chosen file name. Now, we need to go below the "choose texture" box to the section that says "mask type". Click the drop down box next to it, and select paint -- make sure your chosen warpaint file is still highlighted under the tint layer section for this to take effect.

As for adding colors, honestly you can skip this step. You can choose colors for your tat using the method mentioned on the description page.

Once done, click ok at the bottom. You can wash, rinse and repeat these steps for each race/gender/warpaint combination you wish to use.

Once completed with adding the desired warpaints, at the very top, you will see the "save" option (the disk icon just below the File and Edit dropdowns). Click it, and once saved, close the creation kit. When logging into the game, be sure to go into the Mods menu, make sure that the NoiralSE.esp is checked, and that the WyldTat.esp is turned off. Your chosen Warpaint should show up in the character portion under the warpaint selections.

    Hope this helps!

    **Replacer Warpaint Instructions**

Some mods may cause conflicts with non-replacer warpaint mods. One workaround for this is to change your favorite warpaint from non-replacer tat mods to replacer renditions.

You can change your favorite warpaints from the nonreplacer mods into a replacer version, and place the file in your Steam>steamapps>common>skyrim> Data>textures>actors>character>character assets>tintmasks folder.

Just rename your favorite warpaint file based on males or females to:

femaleheadwarpaint_01.dds (instead of 01, you can do 02, 03 and so on up to 10)

maleheadwarpaint_01.dds (same as above with the 01)

You do not need need to activate the esp file to access replacer version tats -- they will show up in place of whatever vanilla tat number you used.

Look at the stickied comments about the black face issue. I have not been able to replicate issue as I use the RaceMenu version and do not use mods that alter vampires, but it is an issue that happens in a lot of people's games...and a ton of those people have never touched nor installed my mod.

If you feel my mod is the issue, there are a ton of different options for installing and using my mod. Try one of the alternate methods. Again, check the stickied comments.

In the end, if you are getting Vampire black face, there is something conflicting with the esp/bsa version of the mod. You have a mod somewhere that has altered the vampire race tabs, which the esp/bsa version of mine does alter, and it is causing the conflict. Use one of the multitude of alternatives I have offered, if this is the case. Any issues with the RaceMenu version, need to be directed to the RaceMenu mod, as those plugins do not alter the race tabs in the slightest.

If you have vampire black face while even using the replacer version, then you have other issues that have nothing to do with my mod...

Doesn't work. I don't have anything on that could conflict with this. Racemenu is installed. Used showracemenu command after about 5 min wait time after loading in. Nothing.

Older comment, but...the mod works with RaceMenu. It is the version I personally use. If you cannot get it to work, then recheck your installation, and double check your RaceMenu stuff. The RaceMenu plugins work.

Learned that the added warpaints are in the makeup section when you press T but I can't tell the difference between all the numbers, and the pictures on here don't say the number that it shows. Is there a way to change this, and if not can you tell me which one is the treble clef?
Edit: nvm I realized I could just turn on the color and basically just scroll through all of them. btw it's 42
Edit2: is there a way to increase the maximum opacity? These aren't as opaque as I'd like. (otherwise this mod is actually great btw)

Same for me. No additional options show up in Racemenu makeup. New sections for body paint, etc., don't actually apply any warpaint or tattoos.

    Greetings!

I read all the comments and suggestions on how to make the mod work for various races, but no one mentioned that it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't; which is the problem I'm having. I was wondering if it was a load placement issue? Where should I load this mod in my order? Anyway, I love this mod, when I can get it to work. :D The tats are beautiful and well-made, and very immersive. Thank you SO much for making this! :D

I second this comment. Just type " COC DLC1VampireCastleGuildHall" into console command. then go forward drop off the balcony and turn left into that room. the elf in there vampire has dark face bug. isolated this to be the cause. Please fix.

I use my own mod, and have never seen a vamp with the dark face bug. Mod conflict most likely. Try the race menu version of the mod, or the replacer version.

I checked it in almost vanilla status (like only installed USSEP, CRF, SkyUI, FNIS etc). It happens at some vampires, not all. I'll check this again at SSEEdit soon.

Unfortunately, I cannot offer a fix for your problem, as there is no blanket fix. To add warpaints to the races, you have to add them to the race tabs, which effectively alters that race. What this does, is make that version of this mod possibly conflict with any and every mod that alters the race tabs in any little way, which can cause a variety of issues. I cannot tell you the number of mods that alter the race tabs...they are literally legion. There is no way I can offer a fix for each and every possible conflicting mod out there. It is in short, an impossible task.

I do offer up three different options though beyond the original version. There are instructions for creating replacer versions of the warpaints, I also offer instructions on how to add warpaints to other mods, and the best option, is the RaceMenu plug in. So....while I understand the frustration of the vamps with black face, there are three other ways to use this mod. While they may not be as easy and convenient as the original version of the mod, they offer ways around a variety of issues.

Hey I've been through the race menu page many times now and can't for the life of me figure out how to get this mod to work with race menu. Would you be able to help? The warpaints don't show up in makeup or in regular creation.

Hi, I've read your post about how this mod works and stuff, and I've seen it work for others and I completely believe you. I'm just unsure how to load this up, I have it installed, and I'm unsure of what to do from here? So do I go into the SKSE,ini in the racemenu folder and chance stuff in that? Or am I suppose to do something in this mods ini files?

Any chance of a nice, simple, easy to install, actually works without screwing up every other mod replacer version? After all, every single vanilla warpaint by Bethesda is unmitigated, ugly, low res sh!t, and your's definitely aren't! Ok ok, i'll follow your lovely instructions then. Nice work!! ;)

Have to agree, your warpaint won't show up when I am a vampire. I have to go to console and race change back to breton and then to breton vampire to get it to work while I am a vampire. It's frustrating and annoying.

Restless Pilgrim is right, the base warpaints do suck and I'd rather a replacer mod that doesn't have non-replace issues.

P.S. Obviously I love the mod bc I go through this hassle every time I load the game to get my neck tattoos back.

      NOTE/QUESTION?
I ended up replacing my favorite tattoo/warpaint. I followed the instructions in the 2nd sticky and now my warpaint works whether I am a vampire or not.

Your warpaints always worked when I was a vanilla race. But when I became a vampire race they no longer worked. Considering vampires are a base part of the game it seems weird to me that this issue occurs. I am however using vampire mods to keep my normal head instead of sunken cheeks and eye changes (I fixed the dirt by replacing those textures, so no conflict there either). But I don't see how that would cause a conflict in itself. Particularly because replacing a base warpaint with yours works just fine while being a vampire.

Guys, the warpaint mod works by directly modifying races. It's the only way to add warpaints without it being a replacer or using Race Menu. Turning into a vampire changes your race, so that's likely the core of the issue. If you use any mods that change vampires or the races, it will conflict with this mod unless you mitigate the conflicts using SSEDIT.

It actually does work, but using mods like RaceMenu and ECE change the game a bit. Now this is an older post, and I have been gone a bit, but I thought I should drop something for everyone to read. This mod does in fact work, but once you start adding mods that alter the race tab, or use things like ECE and RaceMenu, there are no guarantees on how it will work, since these mods alter the way that eyes, skins, warpaints, textures and more actually works. This mod works, as another user pointed out, by altering the base race tabs or by overwriting a current warpaint file.

When I released this mod here, there were very few custom races, no ECE and no RaceMenu. So there really wasn't a need to clarify such beyond what I had. That said, there is now a RaceMenu version of the mod. As for ECE, I will look into it to see what it takes to make the mod function with that. Most of this came about during my extended modding break.

Bottom line is, the mod does in fact work. When you start adding in mods that add custom races, alter the base races, or change how character customization works, then you are bound to have issues, especially when this mod was released when there was a lack of such things. I will work on how to make this function with ECE, but with the RaceMenu version, the warpaints work fine, and you should not have issues with it...if you do, then it is RaceMenu that you need to look into.
