As mentioned in the description, upgrading weapons and armor is downgraded a lot, because the effect is way too powerful in default settings. I think you need at least smithing 31 and the required perk in order to get a bit of an upgrade effect. Just keep on improving the skill and have a look if you can sharpen anything from time to time.

    Hi Euparkeria,
    thanks for building this mod.
Just got a quick question: I am currently unable to improve any weapons, does your mod affect weapon improvement at all? I have smithing skill 20 but I cant even sharpen an iron dagger
    Thanks for your help,
    Pete

Zeruel241, I made an update that fixes the learning speed, but only 1 version so far. I hope it's to your liking.

It seems like the newest patch introduced a conflict with this mod: when I try to smith or upgrade an item, my Smithing tends to improve by multiple levels. The rest of the mod still seems to work okay, but it looks like the new patch may be overriding the changes to leveling Smithing.

I like the new arrangement of the Tree but could you make the changes to the Armor / Weapon base optional. I have other mods that depend on that being vanilla.

Update: Advanced Smithing is now a perk with two ranks. Scale and Plate is now available on rank two and reuires 50 skill, like in vanilla. Elven and Dwarven are linked to Advanced Smithing I.

I like Advanced armour coming off Steel Smiting but then i'd like to see Elven and Dwarven splitting off from Advanced (seeing as Advanced has both light and heavy armour). The Elven leads off to Glass, while Dwarven leads off to Orcish before they both Join again at Ebony. Ebondy then splits off to both Dragon and Daedric armour.

Currently Advanced Smiting's Plate armour is a bit redundant as anyone choosing advanced is clearly specing for light armour. Having it after Steel, but before Elven/Dwarven makes it more useful.

Adjusting the armour values for the advanced armour would also be required

Skyrim should have tied quests to unlocking each of the material smithing secrets IMO.

Want to learn Dwarven smithing techniques? then a venture into some ancient Dwarven ruin should be in order.
Want to learn Orcish smithing techniques? then you should have to become Bloodkin and perform services for one of the blacksmiths of an Orc Stronghold.
    etc, etc, etc.

Advanced Armors should apply to all metal types because it's a design concept (i.e. once I learn Plate armor I can make Steel Plate but not Dwarven Plate until I unlock Dwarven smithing, etc).

The skill requirement for Advanced Armor/Smithing is still higher than for Dwarven Smithing and Elven armor is arguably more effective than scale, given it's low weight (and 10 skillpoints difference isn't that much, really).

"this is how it ends when someone who should not make a mod does one. Seriously, you just raped the smithing perk tree! "

Seriously, you sound like a hysterical chicken.
