This is a godsend. Would you be willing to add a couple more wallshelves? The mod only seems to have the noble wallshelf but it doesn't quite fit in if you're only using common furniture for example. I'd try to do it myself but I'm a noob when it comes to nifskope.

I am not sure if I understand how the ItemType property works: let's say I would like to make a shelf for diplaying ingots or skulls - would it be enough to just edit one of the existing samples (or create a new one) and change the ItemType property to 1, or is that too easy?

I have tried that and the bookshelf (one of the samples) was still only storing books, so I assume that either I did something wrong or this does not work the way I thought it does.

I'm using the CK and I put a few extra bookcases in someone else's mod for Proudspire Manor.  I save it in CK, then enable it in Nexus Mods, but the bookcases I placed are nowhere to be seen.  Is this because I'm in Skyrim SE?  I've had a ton of luck enabling  mods I found here for my Skyrim SE built for Skyrim, but maybe I met my match this time around?

First of all - this mod is absolutely awesome, thank you. I was desperately searching for something to replace the Spawnable Book Shelf (aka SBS), since it cannot be downloaded from Nexus anymore and your mod hit the spot.

That being said, I think I might be doing something wrong - I really like the idea of setting up a massive library wall wherever I live and I was doing it using the Jaxonz Positioner to pick your sample bookshelves (from the aaaBookshelves cell, of course I picked the ones without trigger) and just drop and position them somewhere else, I got the full bookshelf issue though (essentially, my steps were:
    1-hit the bookshelf
    2-pickup the bookshelf
    3-move to my home cell
    4-deploy the bookshelf
5-leave home cell and return to it)

I have a following question: is picking up bookshelves possible or am I restricted to move them in the cell they were originally put in (in which case I will just pre-create them in the location I am going to live in) - needless to say, your bookshelves in the aaaBookshelves cell were working just fine. so I think the removing and recreating them in a different cell might be the problem

Any thoughts on the matter will be appreciated

Hmm. I just tried the following and it seemed to work:
      1 - Hit the bookshelf
      2 - copy the bookshelf
3 - take the bookshelf copy
4 - drop the bookshelf in another cell
      5 - place the bookshelf
6 - try to place a book (get the "full bookshelf" message - which makes sense. The bookshelf hasn't initialized yet, so it thinks its capacity is 0)
      7 - Leave/return to the cell
8 - place the book (works, but doesn't display the book. I think this is an issue with the book markers not being populated quickly enough.)
9 - Hit the bookshelf again.
10 - place the book - works. Finally.

Hopefully that helps. Sorry it's such an absurdly arcane process.

I just got back to playing Skyrim, installed your mod and I can confirm it worked - thanks!

Hey, nice mod. How much time does it take to have the shelf actually display the books? When I first loaded in the game, the bookshelf wouldn't let me add anything (Ok, saw from your comment that I have to reload the cell), reloaded the cell and now I can add the  books in there they just wouldn't get displayed at all. Is it maybe too many scripts in my game? It'd be a shame if I can't use it because that Bethesda way of making bookshelves is the most absurd thing I've ever seen.

EDIT: I removed the trigger, that seems to have fixed it.

Quick question: If I use this in my home mod, does the person downloading it have to have SKSE installed as well, or is it just the person building it?

Yes. The person downloading your mod needs SKSE for this to function.

Man, tried to use your mod with Skyrim SE. Opened Creation Kit, placed some of your shelves. Got "Free slots = -1" and "bookshelf is full". Unable to place anything.
Am I doing something wrong? Or is it just oldrim mods can't work with SE?

I don't know. I've never gotten SE to work on my system, so I've written off any conversions to SE until I get a new computer (ie: when I have a decent enough reason to upgrade).

I have found adding slots to the object reference gives more book slots. Go to the script plyBookshelf2 and click bookreackerRA. Then press add over where clear value is. Each book shelf will vary on how many books can fit. You will have to start a new game to see if it works.

I think I might be a bit confused by this mod- is this something you have to do manually via the creation kit?[removing and replacing each bookshelf in the house] or does it change every existing bookshelf into a single meshed container.

You have to manually do this in the creation kit. It is basically a script and mesh combination that, when combined, allow you to make a single container (like a chest, or a cupboard) that behaves like a bookshelf.

Basically, when you make a bookshelf in the Creation Kit, you have to place a bookshelf, a marker for each book, a click marker for each shelf, a trigger marker for each shelf and a container for the bookshelf. Then you have to link all of these markers and the container to one another with a series of keywords. Then you replicate that process over every bookshelf you want to make. If you want to move this bookshelf (say adjust it left by 1 unit), then you have to move every marker as well.

Instead, I developed a labor saving method of building a single container object so that you can just drop one mesh down, and you don't have to fiddle with all those markers. If you want to move it, you only move that container.

This is NOT a replacer (ie: it doesn't modify existing player bookshelves).

Ah! thanks so much for getting back to me- sadly that answer was what I was dreading, because I cannot wrap my head around the creation kit at all. I was hoping this would be a replacer- to fix issues I've been having with misplaced bookshelf markers.

The creation kit... is hell. I'm trying to figure out how to change the vanilla player homes to have the [what i think is] better bookshelves. but it looks like such a mess because of having to buy the different updates. i'm so entirely lost. xD

You're trying to replace the bookshelves in the player homes (Breezehome, Proudspire, etc) or the Hearthfire player homes? That shouldn't be too tricky.

If you can be a bit more specific, I might be able to walk you through what you're trying to do.

I was doing the edits to the vanilla player homes first- then maybe the hearthfire homes after that. But its a mess, all items just overlaid eachother. Its such a mess. xD

though i also have mods that change the houses already- i'm just wanting to replace the bookshelves with yours.

I will never use this, but wow! I can tell this was much needed. I never knew how complicated original bookshelves were. Well done.

Thanks! I freely admit that I originally did this for selfish reasons (my Build Your Own Breezehome mod). After I finished it, I figured it would be a nice shortcut for the modding community. So far it seems that people like it.
