It would behave as the safe does, either as a container or door. But since it doesn't have a door, the lock will swing open floating in the air. Slap a door of any shape on it in nifskope and then use it as a new mesh; that's what it's for, as a resource.
Some consideration needs to be taken to the width of the door. The door has to be roughly the same width as the safe door, or the open-door-animation starts looking odd, swinging on an axis that a door/door-hinge wouldn't be placed at.
Shrinking the door symmetrically or just on the x-axis are two ways to make it fit better.
This would be an excellent replacer for locked doors, perfect for immersion for those who don't use a hud. You see the lock, it means it locked instead of 'walk over to door, activate key to see it's locked'
