Version 1.3 should fix the broken mod (finally)! Sorry to everyone whose time was wasted. New users shouldn't have a problem anymore.

However, if you have already downloaded the file and don't want to do so again, simply use Hellstorm's fix:

to fix this manually add a new folder to skyrim/data and call it music, then open that folder and create another inside it called special

    skyrim/data/music/special

If you're REALLY not computer-savvy and don't want to mess around with your files (or are using a mod manager), you can of course download the latest version and it ought to work fine.

Technical details for nerds (not necessary to read):

It turns out that I was indeed missing something in the file structure: an empty \data\music\special folder (which is now added).

This file was unnecessary in Hellstorm's original version because he didn't add any new music... but my version now apparently tells the .dll plugin to look for a non-existent folder, which broke the entire thing. This is why everything seemed theoretically "fine" since my file structures were indeed identical to the original... except that was exactly the problem. Trying to add music without changing anything else is what broke the mod.

(This is all just a convoluted excuse to say that it WASN'T MY FAULT! REALLY! lol)

I installed the mod and when i launch skyrim there is always the same picture (mountains) with the vanilla music. Can you help me ?

EDIT : After a long search, i solved the problem : The NMM installation didn't work for me. I needed to install manually.

    How to install manually ?
    -Open the mod's archive
-Copy "SKSE" folder and put it in your data folder
-Copy "music" folder and put it in your data folder
-Copy "mainmenuwallpapers" folder and put it in your data folder
-In the archive, open "Meshes" folder and you will find "interface" folder in it. Copy "interface" folder and put it in your "Meshes" folder in Skyrim
-In the archive, open "Textures" folder and you will find "interface" folder in it. Copy "interface" folder and put it in your "Textures" folder in Skyrim

I hope the mod's creator will write this message in the description of the mod to help all people who have the same problem than me.

hellstorm102 uploaded his source code. Will you be able to contact him in exporting this mod to SE or perhaps even having the ability to randomize the music as well? As of right now the music is selected as the wallpaper is randomized (i.e.wallaper 1 will always play song 1, while wallpaper 2 always plays song 2. The wallpaper is randomized, but not the music).

I'm not a coder (at all!) so I can't really do anything with what he's released, not unless someone else actually fully converts the .dll file... otherwise his source code might as well be written in Martian for all I can do with it.

As to your second point, I don't know how to separately randomize the music apart from the wallpapers either, sorry.... the randomizer .dll picks a folder, not the individual files.

      Sorry!

Ah I see, no worries mate. As for the second one, I can code, but not in this language (papyrus I believe?). A workaround could be making duplicates of the same background image with all the different songs, but man, that would consume anyone's disk space. In any case, thank you :)

    This look awesome.
Is there any chance for an SE port?

Since it can't be ported on our end due to the dll, I thought I'd ask.

    Thanks.

So I like how this replacer has more variety but I dont want the original music gone completely, is there an option to keep the music with the others or not?

Go into the files and delete the mus_maintheme.xmw files in each subfolder. You'll have to do that for each screen you wan to hear vanilla music.

I only deleted 3 of them & the menu is giving me the same menu picture with the vanilla music everytime I launch the game. Its not even one of the backgrounds I deleted the xmw files from??? Worse, its not even one of the pictures from the author images section??? How is that even possible???

I'm not sure, sorry. If you remove a mus_maintheme.xmw file it shouldn't overwrite the vanilla music.

Try to instead replace the file with the vanilla mus_maintheme.xmw instead.

No the issue isnt the music being overwritten. The problem is a picture not shown in your picture section is being used for the menu replacer & preventing all the actual pics from appearing while the vanilla music remains untouched.

This is what I keep getting: https://imgur.com/FzjtKVj

If you keep getting that same pic it means the skse plugin isn't working. Make sure you have it installed in the right plugins folder. (Either that or you're trying to install it to SE, in which case it won't work.)

Its Oldrim, I checked the files during manual install & they go to the right place. the thing is the picture being selected is the single dds file in the textures folder. Maybe that's why the other pictures aren't appearing??? Also the plugin is in the correct place

EDIT: Its working now. Meaning Nexus Manager fucked up the install. I have the most recent version so you should make sure the files actually go to the right place when choosing a NMM download.

Could be... but you should have a bit of humility when installing mods, even the best of us can f*** things up without realizing it. I've recently reinstalled Oblivion on my new rig and starting modding the heck out of it, and I've had a lot of frustrating problems and "bugs" which were maddening, but I'd often realize that it ended up being one really minor, seemingly trivial file misplaced, load order problem, misclick etc which ended up being my fault.

I'm not saying it *was* your fault of course, but blaming NMM when nobody else had that problem until now doesn't seem like the answer to me. Anyway, glad you got it working, have fun out there... and by the nine divines, if you've got to mod, stay on the roads! There have been sightings, you see... the mod conflicts...

I'm having the same problem destryoyah had. I installed with NMM and it worked the first time i booted the game but everytime after that i get the same picture of those mountains in destroyah's screenshot and vanilla music. Gonna try installing manually and see if that fixes it. Playing oldrim.

Hey, your mods are absolutely awesome!!!!
Never again boring main menu music, never again boring loading screens :D

I also copied two additional wallpaper mods in the appropriate folders. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/25176/?tab=files , https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/3708/?tab=files
Everything works fine, but currently your additional music only begins to play when one of your wallpaper is shown.
Have you any idea of how I could get it working with any picture?

Thank you for your kind compliment :)

If you want to add more music to the other screens, you have to go into the folders of each individual new screen (from the other mods) and replace data\music\special\Mus_maintheme.xmw with a file of the same name. (Since those folders and files probably don't exist yet, you'll have to create them yourself.)

If you want the music to be custom (your music) you need to convert the music file to .xmw format (there are converters here on the nexus), or you could copy/paste the .xmw from my wallpapers to the music folder(s) of your choice.

So for example, if you really like the Morrowind music from the Solstheim "cliff racer" wallpaper, you'd go to the folder called "Yourmemorial - Solstheim", navigate to the music file, and copy Mus_maintheme.xmw, and put that copy in the same data\music\special folder as the screen whose music you'd wish to replace, i.e., FOLDERWALLPAPERNAME\data\music\special\Mus_maintheme.xmw

      Cheers!

Wow, thank you, it works and wasn't difficult :D

One last question: I'm using ModOrganizer and every time I start the game, a meshes, textures and music folder is placed in its overwrite folder.
As I want to keep that folder clear I have to put them in the unificated main menu mod folder, where they replace the current ones.
Do you know how to get rid of that?
I know, it wouldn't do any harm, however when it comes down to modding, I become the daedric prince of order.

Yeah, that's an MO issue, the same thing happened to me and to other users... I don't know of any way around it, sorry. It's just the way MO works, for some reason it places the files chosen into the overwrite folder. I have no idea why, or how to stop it... sorry.

The music folder in the main directory is supposed to be empty so the .dll plugin can detect which folders to access. The music files are in the subdirectories of each individual loadscreen.

Excellent collection. Everything works fine except that I find the music volume *too low*. I need to max out my speaker volume to hear them and if I forget to turn it down any other sounds would pop my ears.

Does this contrast with your normal in-game volume? (i.e. if you put the default music back on does it get loud?)

Also does it happen for multiple screens or just one?

I never had this problem on my end, and this is the first I've heard of it... Any info you could provide could help. I have a new rig and haven't installed Skyrim yet so I can't do any further testing ATM.

Wow, thank you very much Hellstorm and Dahveed! The mod finally works! I really appreciate you guys!

By the way Dahveed, I found some file structure errors:

Eiries - Shrine of Mara - mesh/music/texture folders not inside the data folder

GodOfVengeance - Alteration Witch - no data folder

Mana3301 - Sword of Stendarr - no data folder

Thank you again! You guys rock!

You're right, those were more recent additions. Not sure if the structural errors cause them to be skipped or not, but I've modified them just in case.

Next update will have the correct folder structure eveyrwhere. Thanks for the tip!

I placed the 4 folders from the zip download into the data folder manually, but I get only one picture all the time and no music at all, just the vanilla music. What gives, man? I just wasted my time with this mod. No wonder you got so few endorsements. Great pictures though. That's why I'm even more pissed off.

Double-check folder structure (make sure meshes, textures etc are in your data folder and you don't have a "duplicate" data folder. Also you need the skse plugin.

Otherwise it should work. I really have no idea why people are having problems.

Your mod's file structure is exactly the same as hellstorm's, right? Only except that you got music folder added to the folder containing mesh and texture folders, right? If so, I too have no idea why it's not working. Hellstorm's mod works just fine. Of course I have SKSE and the rmm.dll in the skse/plugins folder. I really want to use your mod instead of Hellstrom's. Please help~

Maybe try deleting the "logo.nif" and "MAINMENUWALLPAPER.dds" files from the main mesh and texture directories? (Not from the individual sub-directories from \mainmenuwallpapers, but from the main \meshes and \textures directories).

I'm sorry I'm really at a loss, I've double-checked and triple-checked the structure and everything is identical to the original mod. Maybe it has something to do with more recent skse updates breaking something? No idea :(

Also, as an experiment, you could remove this mod entirely and try hellstorm102's original mod just to see if it works. (Link is in the main page description.) If you can manage to get his mod working, you can then remove his main menu folders (labelled A-Z) and copy/paste my folders there. (Or you could keep his images as well, giving the mod a larger random pool of images to draw from... the number of screens is theoretically infinite.)

Also I'll send a message to him (I hope he's still around) and maybe he can help us solve this issue :/

You are missing the folder structure for the audio.

the plugin does not copy anything because of the missing empty folders.

to fix this manually add a new folder to skyrim/data and call it music, then open that folder and create another inside it called special

      skyrim/data/music/special

to fix the mod, add the empty folders to the main RAR
