Assuming there are sabre cats and mammoth in skyrim, I think that wolfs of that land are not normal modern Canis lupus, but Canis dirus aka Dire Wolf. And that species is bigger than normal wolf.
I know wolves as well. Your information is not correct having cared for one for several years in the past. Have you seen their counterpart found in the game known as an Irish Wolfhound. They are BIG. really big. Just saying..
I live in the cold North, and i can tell you the wolves are really BIG here So the wolves in Skyrim is not that fantasyish just look at the footprint in this picture http://forskning.no/sites/default/files/styles/full_width/public/ulvespor_mogens_totsas.jpg?itok=UK5B1ZkM
haha I see, this picture made me think about a Kevin Costner movie "dances with wolves" hehe We do not have horse-size wolf here maybe pony-size some places. they really shred up the sheep and deer around here. but yes, the in-game wolves are abit big (late game) so the mod is useful for immersive

The wolves were always a bit too big for me
Scientific name: Canis lupus
Height: 80 – 85 cm (of adults, shoulder height)
Life expectancy: 5 – 6 years (in the wilderness)
Type: Wolf-like and jackal-like (Canis)
Speed: 50 – 60 km/h (Running)
Weight: Manly: 30 – 80 kg (adult), females: 23 – 55 kg (adult)
I agree with bittu0812.
