OK, after taking 2 weeks to move my huge modlist to mod organizer because NMM just wont handle profiles correctly for me I can finally work on this mod a bit more.

    Features to expect
    • _ Adjustments to withdrawal symptoms based on kittie885 comment
    • _ Framework for general withdrawal symptoms
    • _ 4 more addiction slots for modders
    • _ Example addiction: SweetRolls / Sugar in general
    • _ Think a bit more about Sleeping Treesap

hi! I'm really interested in trying this mod out but do you have any idea if it plays nice with ineed?
if so i'm really looking forward to using this alongside it :> and your ideas are so far wonderful! i do really like wismas' ideas, especially the hallucinations, for possible updates!
    EDIT
    --
the reason I really want this mod is bc my character is supposed to be a recovering addict and this would add a whole lot to his gameplay

It is hard to be a chocolate addict
Not an easy life. Khajiit can tell. Even in the greatest unbearable summer heat or in the most freezing winter evenings one MUST go out and buy chocolate to be fully able to enjoy the evening.
Otherwise something is missing and not even a full honey pot with cake can substitute fresh haselnut and walnut chocolate.

    IDEAS...

Sugar addiction... eat too many sweetrolls, as the post below stated, and get addicted to automatically munching on them all day long, along with any other sugary items. Whether from your inventory, or other inventories, such as looting items and corpses... Would go well with the Weightmorphs mod, where you actually put on weight from overeating...

Alcohol addiction... Same as sugar addiction, automatically looting and drinking booze when you see it... When addiction is high enough...

Skooma addiction... Same as sugar addiction, automatically looting and drinking skooma when you see it... When addiction is high enough...

Long term cravings effect... Once tried, cravings will never end. With a small chance of gulping down, or eating stuff that you shouldn't, even when clean. Say... a 1% chance, when item is in front of you in an inventory.

Sort of like when people give up smoking, and clear out cigarettes from their house to prevent them getting re-addicted...

Sugar addiction would not have any negative effects, apart from cleaning out your inventories of sweet stuff. Or if using weight morphs mod, gaining weight at an alarming rate...

Personally... I'd like alcohol to play a bigger part in Skryim, I only use it for keeping warm in Frostfall, and even then... it isn't really good...

    Just some ideas...

I think it's a bad design choice to force actions upon the player.
If he want's to get rid of an addiction, he should be able to get though it.
If he can't stand the withdrawal symptoms he'll have to take more.

Increasing desire when looking at a drug/having them in your inventory is a good idea tho. I'll see how to implement that.

Drinks in general get more important if you install a needs mod like RND2 or iNeed.
Those mods also reminded me, that there's a cooking system in Skyrim

Was it wrong that my first thought was to use this to give my character a Sweet Roll addiction?

Totally going to try this out, the only other mod I know of that does anything similar is Skooma Wh*re, and it has other features I don't care much for so going to give this one a shot and see how it goes. You should add sleeping tree sap to the possible drugs because let's face it, sap from a purple glowing tree has to be bad for you.

      Thanks.
I'm open for suggestions anyway, feel free to suggest withdrawal symptoms.

There was an addiction mod for Oblivion that I loved to death, mainly due to the withdrawal symptoms. It would start out with hallucinations by playing sounds randomly like foot steps or voices to make you think there was a person or enemy near by. It would totally freak you out and make you look around for things that aren't there. Then you would have an over-encumbered affect that made it so you could only walk and not run, with a panting noise to simulate being extremely low on energy or tired. The last affect was blacking out where your avatar would fall to the ground and be unable to move for a period of time and it was extremely annoying for those who were not patient enough to wait for it to pass. It would last anywhere from 5 to 20 real life minutes depending on the strength of the addiction, accompanied by a draining of health. The health drain was usually not deadly but could be with an extreme addiction and a low level character.

I've been looking for a Skyrim mod just like this ever since Skyrim was released. Yours is the closest yet! I'm very excited about the future of this mod!

If you wanted to get really detailed with withdrawal symptoms you could add shaking (random dropping of handheld weapons to the ground where you stand) with the over-encumbered stage. I would be extremely careful with adding any sleeping tree sap affects to anything.. they make the game so blurry it's hard to play and hard to enjoy the mod with it. It's one reason i'v avoided other addiction mods.

      Sounds awesome, I'll consider it.
About the sleeping tree sap: While I'm modding I could remove the blur

Does this affect NPC's too? I'd like to be aable to sell drugs to NPC's and have them need more, etc.

    Cheers!

      Currently not.
It would be possible to add a simplified system, but I don't know how I should handle an addiction for NPCs.
I'm afraid the full system would create to much load on papyrus while I'd have to attach scripts to the NPC causing save-bloat.
      ...
How about only having a last consumed time that represents the desire. A scan-quest could restart to find NPCs near and make them react based on their desire.
      ...
      Just thinking out loud
      I'll take a look.

I know nothing about papyrus scripting, but would it be possible to attach the script to the player? The player should know who thier customers are, so you could scan when the player enters a new cell. Would that work?

Looks interesting. I believe Dawnguard adds another type of Skooma, linked to the Skooma Den near Riften.

If you want some suggestions for withdrawal symptoms here are a few possibilities:

    1. Sounds such as footsteps, voices, spider crawling. Anything sound that would put you on edge. It shouldn't be linked to any real threat.

    2. Blackout periods.

    3. Small bugs crawling around pc, like spiders.

    4. Maybe delusions like enemies that disappear and reappear. Shouldn't cause damage, just confusion.

    5. Fallout 3 had a great graphic for head injuries. It was a humming sound with a brief blur to the screen.

Just some quick random thoughts. Don't even know how possible they are. Looking forward to trying your mod.
