Old cities should have a wide range of architectural types, sometimes in the same building. I live a few miles from a town with an medieval church that have been rebuilt and added to over the centuries giving it a bit of an odd appearance due to this. The college is ancient but that building could be a relatively new creation, perhaps built just shortly before the collapse that destroyed most of Winterhold. If all look the same , then it look like it was all built at once in some kind of governmental program. That would make sense for post collapse buildings made to house survivors and as such make sense for the the currently occupied buildings in the town, as it is more of now. Even the jarls house is way below what it should have been in older times, it was probably a palace rivalling Dragons Reach and most likely built of stone.
One could also expect a lot of buildings created from the ruins as well, like a wooden building with a still intact old stone wall or something, and buildings used in way not normally intended like an old wach tower converted to someones home.
Ditto to what niceguy said, I actually find it highly immersive that a city with a long ancient history of being significant to Skyrim until the great collapse would have ancient Nordic Walls.
Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for the constructive comments. I feel that the ancient nordic walls fit in. I will probably make an optional Winterhold Walls file with different walls. I'm still new to nexus and need some help tinkering with the whole NMM uploading aspect of my mods. I will try to add different styles of architecture. Do you guys have any ideas of what I could do? Any support is welcome.
I wanted to thank everyone for their comments. I haven't been on in a while, so I'm going to start replying more frequently. I am glad my mod works with other winterhold mods. For pictures in the sun, I will try, but winterhold is pretty much like that 24/7. For whiterun walls, it doesn't really convey the old/ancient theme. If my knowledge of nirn lore serves me well, the great collapse happened many many years after the founding of whiterun, however it was founded in the first era rather than before it. I think that the ancient nordic ruins are alright. The soul cairn walls are really odd plus it would require the dawnguard DLC, which I do have, but I don't want to use it for any non-dawnguard specific mods. I will try to go and upload more pictures, both in the sun and in different perspectives
Tested with Rebuild Winterhold mod, Winterhold Lighthouse, and Winterhold Cliff House mod.. They work seamlessly together, and make Winterhold look tremendous!!
