    Hi Ulf Wagemann,
Do you support this tool any more? If yes then can you please add one option: Option to rename a backup file - best way to do this would be: 1. double click on filename column to edit the filename or right click on any backup file row and select rename. It will be helpful if you do not want to overwrite a file.

On the other hand, if you no longer support this tool then can you please open source this?

    Best regards.

    Hi Troyabush,

happy new year and sorry for the late reply, I did not check back here for quite some time. If I get you right, Skyrim ctd's when being started through CH for you.

If you have SKSE installed, did you start CH using the provided batch file (modified to your needs and installation pathes, ofc)? The batch file ensures that the SKSE launcher is executed instead of the ordinary launcher.

Actually, CH cannot force Skyrim to ctd, because it does not intefere with Skyrim or modify it in any way, but just runs in parallel as an application and monitors Skyrim's activities in the file system. So even if CH does something wrong (or crashes itself), this could not cause Skyrim to ctd. CTD's of any kind can only be caused by mods which modify Skyrim.

This is why I guess that something needed by the corresponding savegames is not loaded when launching Skyrim through CH. Do you have any further extensions installed which require external loaders? Could you please let me know whether CH/Skyrim work well after checking the topics mentioned above?

I am glad you like CH, very appreciated :-)
    Regards,
    ~BraveDog

I just downloded this about 2 days ago, i have the latest java jre 7 and everything seems fine until i goto play the game when i hit the continue button it ctd's everytime just before the loading screen. If i try to start a new game the ui disapears and the dragonborn sign stays there and the game will not respond. However loading through skse or steam still works fine. Does anyone have any ideas what i'm doing wrong? By the way i absolutely love the way this file works something like this should have come with this game!

    Hi digitaltrucker,

great, many thanks! Though CH did not crash for me yet, I suspect a certain piece of code to be responsible, I am curious whether the logs will confirm it.

I PM'ed some information to you.

    Regards,
    ~BraveDog

    Hi,

thanks for the information. It seems that CH caused a JVM crash, in that case there should be some kind of logfile in CH's installation folder. If you find any, could you please send it to me?

I'm trying to figure out what causes that crash, but I've been playing with the latest release for several hours without issues, so it may take some time to detect the problem.

    Regards,

Some odd behavior is happening with the new version. The program is quietly shutting down. I'm playing, and then after a while I notice that I don't hear the 'click' when I autosave. Sure enough, when I exit Skyrim I find that Character Helper isn't running anymore. I don't get any error messages and it launches again with no trouble. If there's a log file or any info I can give you to help, let me know.

    Hi digitaltrucker,

thanks for your efforts and kind words, very appreciated :-) You're not the only user, I am using it myself, too, so there are at least 2 users, haha :-) But you know, I don't do this for fame or endorsements, but for the fun of coding and doing something useful (and, of course, because Skyrim's handling of savegames is not too sophisticated).

I had a short look at Oblivion's savegame format, and there are differences to Skyrim's format. And of course, I would have to re-install Oblivion (and OBSE, of course) to examine how it handles filenames when saving games etc pp. But it is certainly doable to modify CH in order to working with Oblivion.

The next week I won't find any time to work on my private projects due to my job, but after that, I will check what I have to do in order to adapt CH for Oblivion - I always need to have something to code in my spare time

    Have a good time!
    Regards,
    ~BraveDog
