i was googling all over the net looking for this kind of tutorial that covers retexturing, saving it rightly as a dds file and so on, until at last i find this! thank you so much for making this tut, i know you've put alot of effort to make this tut and we, the noobs of skyrim (well myself significantly :p ) are really appreciate this thank you once again!
I don't use Gimp, but I believe you have to create a mask layer and then apply it to the normal map as an alpha mask. I'm not real sure about the particulars, but look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prwc95KTsvY I think you'll find your answer.
in my normal mapping tools for Paint.NET you simply draw a grey scale image where lighter is more shiny and darker is less. The Normal tools will convert this into the alpha channel of the normal map for you. you can get it here: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/6843
Fantastic PDF! Thank you for putting this together.
I am still having a little difficulty when making a normal map (_n.dds) for clothing and armor. I keep getting an issue where cloth material is glossy, and I want it non shiny. Is there any advice for how to create a non glossy normal for GIMP? Thanks Goujo!
