Yes, this is a problem that I have never noticed before. But I'm quite sorry that I don't know how to fix it, because the meshes I used to make this NPC are from ECE, and I don't know where is wrong...If I solve this problem, I will update a new version.
This is a vanilla problem. Any magic-using follower will inevitably damage the player or other followers. Followers with summoning spells always seem to pick the wrong place and the wrong time to use them. I generally replace followers' summoning and area effect spells with targeted spells. Much less frustrating.
Follower framework mods like Amazing follower Tweaks and Followerlive Package have options to make followers not damage player and other followers. it works with area of effect spells. not sure on summons

I've posted a screen shot in the image section for you to see. It looks like donkey teeth (no offense, but it looks really awful).
