Hi Zyrez, I know this isn't the place to ask or post this,
but I was hoping you might be able help me with a bard custom music issue myself and others are having,
If you cant , that's fine to ,
I use a mod called "become a bard" but the authors gone into hiding except for those on the friends list,
The issue I''m having just a small one is when setting up a custom music folder to player music or songs outside of skyrim in game you need to create a music folder then a custom folder inside that and place the converted music into that , I have everything set up the way it should be , the problem myself and others have is in game you select custom and your character does animation , the people start dancing , Just No Sound =( ,
I'm guessing some small tweak somewhere, !

I've also played with Become A Bard for quite a while myself, though I've never actually tried the custom music features it offers since I've always been happy enough with the tracks it has anyway.

I'll look into it and see if I can replicate the problem, or if I can't manage to make the same thing happen and it ends up working properly then I'll get back to you with exactly what I'll have done.

Just a thought, but you mentioned that Become A Bard's custom music also requires user tracks to be converted. How are you converting the audio files? I'm sure this isn't the case, but people often assume that simply renaming a file's extension (i.e. from MP3 to XWM) is good enough, but doing that isn't sufficient for Skyrim to read the music.
Like I said, I'm sure that's not the cause of the problem but it is a very common mistake people tend to run into (I myself did it for days on end before I finally realized that it wasn't working lol).

Anyway, I've just woken up so I'll try out getting custom music to play in Become A Bard when I can fully open both my eyes and I'll get back to you on how it goes.

I've tried looking for a download for the latest version of Become A Bard, but I can't find it anywhere. Is it possible that you could provide a link or let me know where it's hosted? If I can download the latest I'll definitely look into the issue and see if I can help out.
By the way, I'm sorry to get back to you so late on this.

Oh ok, thanks for replying ( knew you were busy) clean forgot about the link and yes the mod author has gone into hiding with the mod ,
I remember downloading the mod from reddit, but now either one of links show take you to a direct download at least , sry about not leaving a link,
I was playing a male bard at the time and there wasnt to much of the outside added song that I liked, so the custom was I thought quite a good side thing, but back to playing a female bard, but would still like to know what it is I needed to still do to make it work, just because it more annoying that I cant , others as well have the same issue! http://bardsandmerchants.com/downloads/LPBards_5_0_6.7z

Some reason I couldn't edit my own comment, I used a converter called multi xwm which was said to used by the mod author!

y chug out one or two full-length orchestral tracks per day, but the lack of quality and variance of such rushed tracks aren't what I envision for this mod. Quality over quantity holds true here, and I aim to have SCMuR's musical quality rival that of the game's default tracks when it's finally done.

when I saw this, I instantly tracked ur mod. I really love ur idea. Nd, I love new professional constant style of music. Hope it comes out soon, and goodluck.

      Thanks mate, I appreciate it.
Things have been going quite slow regarding SCMuR, I've only created a couple of new outside exploration tracks and a new regular combat track.
The reason for this is that I recently stumbled upon a local recording label in the closest city to me and, after a brief conversation with them, they seem to be interested in potentially signing me to their label and asked me if I could send in a demo.
I've never created a demo in my life so I've been researching into it as well as working on a couple of lyrical songs that I'll use in the demo.
My Skyrim LP series on YouTube has seen the worst of the inactivity unfortunately.
Before I return my full focus to the mod I want to be sure I make good on my promise to my viewers on YT with the 2-week daily video marathon. I'll still work on the mod at the same time, but with 3 major happenings going on all at the same time I'm a bit overwhelmed lol.
I've not been so busy in years, and to be honest it's hit me a bit suddenly

I love that more people are creating music, but I've run into an issue. Maybe you can help.

All of these music overhaul mods replace music. They don't add music. I've downloaded three overhaul mods; one has entirely custom-made scores, while another has generic fantasy music taken from the internet, and the last is just the Witcher 2 music. They all override each other, so, if it's possible, do you know of a way I could combine them all?

Although I've been using mods in TES games since Morrowind, I'm still relatively new to creating them. It is possible to get Skyrim to read additional audio files and use them in-game, but I don't know how to do it yet.

If searching on Google for an answer hasn't proven useful, it might be worth looking into how other audio-based mods work which add audio files to new folder structures to the game, such as Player Voicesets.

Basically, if you can figure out how to get the game to read files in a new folder structure that isn't in the game by default, then you should be able to use that method to create your own folder structures and potentially combine all 3 mods into one by yourself and do it that way.

One has to wonder why anyone would want to replace the music of an Elder Scrolls game and specifically Jeremy Soule, who is one of the very best composers in the world and probably the best when it comes to computer games. But hey, more power to you dude!

Don't get me wrong, I love Skyrim's default music and I often listen to a lot of them outside the game in my spare time (people still tell me it's odd that I work out at the gym to orchestral scores on my iPod).

My idea of replacing all the game's default music first came about when I was starting to see copyright notices on my LP videos on YouTube. I was getting pretty fed up with having videos that are months old suddenly have a copyright notice attached to them, so I started working on this mod a year ago in order to eventually have a playlist that I could edit into any gameplay footage which would help prevent audio copyright infringement.

Of course, the idea of the mod has evolved since it was first just an idea, and once it's done I'm hoping that it will be something that people can enjoy just as much as the game's original scores.

But yeah, I can't ever hope to be on par with Jeremy and I don't aim to compete with his work.

You should post a link in the description to sample the music. That way people won't skip over this mod simply because they don't want to go through the download process.

I uploaded a video that showcases a few of the tracks, it's under the 'Videos' section.

Seeing as how a lot of the tracks will be altered numerous times, and some even possibly scrapped, it's counter-productive to upload a track every time I make a new one or change the current ones.

I do intend to eventually upload all of the music I create for the mod to a new SoundCloud profile that'll be solely for the mod's music. However, I'll do this only with tracks that are 100% completed for definite, and when I've got a number of them done.

Will this be entirely your created content, or will you be using some of the works from others who have given permission, like Malukah?

I think this is entirely custom made as in the author is composing every track themselves. Quite a feat I must admit though I am curious. Is this just a replacer for Skyrim's tracks or adding in addition to replacing the existing tracks?

      @dpgillam
The idea is that when the mod's 100% finished, every single track it uses will be entirely of my own creation. I won't be using any samples or songs by other artists at all. Aside from the usual copyright restrictions when using content by other artists, creating all the music myself from scratch gives me a lot more freedom on exactly what goes into each track. Sure, it takes longer this way but it also doesn't hold me or the music back.

      @SamusKnight2K
I'm still brand new to creating mods for Skyrim despite being a user of mods since the days of Morrowind. As such, I don't know how to make the game read new files on top of what it was originally designed to use.
With that said, there are still tens of tens of tens of individual audio files to create. A few tracks are full-length songs but most of the files are 10 to 20 second audio clips which the game refers to as 'palettes'. There are a tonne of these palette tracks inside the music\explore folder and these are what will take the majority of my time and effort to create.

Well I listened to some of the music in the video link, and most of it doesn't seem like it fits the game. The combat music is good at least, but even that sounds a little bit electronic for some reason. The main problem I heard was with the exploration music, it seems like it might be too noisy or distracting from the actually exploration, and on top of that it seems a little too whimsical for a harsh Nordic environment. The theme music is fine, but I still like the original. I would suggest using more of a lower tone on the piano for the exploration music and maybe more tribal sounding drums for the combat music, instead of the electronic and more modern sounding ones.

Haha, this is what I love about music when it comes to various preferences and insights. Throughout creating all of the day time exploration tracks I never really considered the fact that we're set in a nordic viking-like land, instead I concentrated on the fact that Skyrim is a freezing cold landscape and so I focused more on a cold, crisp sound which the high notes on a piano fit into nicely in a lot of ways.

I'll edit a couple of the exploration tracks and use lower piano keys, strings, etc. so it doesn't sound so whimsical. I'll put them into the next version and see how well people respond to them. Thanks mate

Oh yeah! When you're talking about the combat music, are you referring to the regular or boss tracks? The regular battle tracks are actually quite old (I made them half a year ago) so you're absolutely right in saying the drumming sounds like a kick drum since it literally is a kick drum on an electronic kit with no effects at all (not even EQ). I completely forgot about that as well, so thanks a bunch for reminding me!
I might have to just scrap the regular combat music to be honest, it sounds too repetitive and compared to half a year ago I can definitely come up with a more action kind of sound. Again, thanks for bringing this to attention.

    I'll add to this:

Theme Song - I like it, except for the continual thump in the background during the whole thing. It sounds good at the start but as the music ramps up (I'm terrible with terms.) and you get the rest of the orchestra playing it feels very out of place. Imagine like a single guy just hitting the kick pedal on a drum in a slow continuous loop the whole time as the band plays.

Exploration Night - Feels a tiny bit out of place. After awhile it too ramps up and feels a bit too lively. I'd suggest trying more for a mysterious subtle theme. It's dark, quiet. You have no idea what is out there waiting for you. This sounds a little too lively for night time.

Exploration Day - Same issue as night, feels out of place. I really cannot add much because I lack the time to properly listen but what I did hear sounds a lot like the night.

Tavern - I like it, but I get the vision of a castle or something... "regal" almost. Doesn't sound suited for a tavern. I'd suggest something more lively? Something almost party-ish if that's a word...

Combat - I can't get a feel, there's too much noise in the video to listen.

Keep in mind that I watched this on the way to work on the bus so I can't get a full appreciation for it. When I get home this evening I'll give it a proper listen on some real headphones (I'm using earbuds now. They're good for music but you need good headphones to really appreciate it.) and give you an update then. I like the idea here and I've never really used music replacers before in Skyrim. Aside from the title music none of your tracks fit in with the original theme and overall feel that Bethesda tried to create for their game however. At least those I listened to. But it's a nice change for those who want something completely different from the vanilla music.

Disregard my post above. I'm an idiot and my browser won't let me edit. I skipped slightly through the video and didn't realize those were three different tracks for exploration night. Sorry about that. I'll refrain adding any more commentary until I have listened thoroughly. But I can say after realizing that it makes much more sense and the third night track is what I was looking for in terms of mystery.

It's ok mate, I'll admit that I probably could've edited the video together differently to better separate the different tracks.

You did, however, help me out despite misunderstanding the video's editing (again, I don't blame you for my slacking lol). Your mentioning of tracks being too progressive is still true, and this'll help me to keep future tracks more fluid and less progressive/crescendo-like.

As for the tavern track, you say it sounds regal so do you think it might better suited to castle interiors (i.e. Blue Palace's throne room, etc.)? I'd like to hear what other people think about this as well, the tavern track is still unfinished in its current state so I can cater it towards either castle or tavern music.
It's possible we could end up with two different versions, one being for taverns and one for castles, but I'll see what you and others think first.

I really appreciate your feedback mate, I'm positive it'll help me out a lot!
