So after trying this for some time when I give the kids an instrument like a drum a flute or a lute they just say "Aww stop teasing me..." is that what they are supposed to say or do we get to see them say thanks and do a special animation with the new toy?
Two things happen when you go to give a child a gift. There's a master gift list that determines if the item you're giving them is eligible (if it isn't, it doesn't show up in the gift window. Only eligible items do) and this mod extends that list.
The second thing is that the item is compared to other lists to determine its "value", and then the child's enthusiasm over the gift is based on that valuation. Since a lot of these expanded items are not on any of the valuation sublists, the routine thinks the value is 0, and the default response for a value of 0 is "Aww, stop teasing me".
Adding items to the master gift lists is a relatively straightforward process. To then go and break down all the added items by what value category they should be in... would be a tedious nightmare.
1) open the mod in TESEdit. 2) Find the list of items 3) right click, add 4) find the new item, add it as a new record. 5) save the mod.
If you want to give items from other mods, it's a little more complicated. You'll need to make the other mod a master/.ESM with WryeBash, add it to this mod as a master, load up both mods in TESEdit, and follow the steps.
Sorry, folks, I'm not playing Special Edition. YOU can port the mod, though! It has open permissions and is released under a cathedral license. Feel free to port it and release it here or on Bethesda.net :-)
How do I get them to wear custom clothes? I have a mod that changes all the kids appearance, and gives most of them new outfits, how can I give the adopted kids one of those outfits?
I just did a quick test and this mod /seems/ to work with special edition. I adopted a child and was able to give her a spell tome, so I assume it all works. I'll update this if further testing shows that it's not compatible, but so far all is good.
What's really funny is I was just thinking today I should try to find my way around the Creation Kit to expand the kinds of gifts I could give to a kid. It was really bugging me that I couldn't give them stuff like books.
So, trying this out I'd like to firstly say 'thank you' for doing this. I've long hoped for the ability to gift my children with more things than just knives, dolls, wooden swords, dresses, and candies. This is my second mod to be installed, the first being Skyrim Toy Story, and I installed both on the same day, so this is a big thing for me in terms of impressions, and it's been a positive one.
Beyond the praise there is a bug I wish to report: Sofie does not seem to accept some of the expanded gifts. While they show up on the list, the options are grayed out. These gifts include the elven bow and I noticed my Daedric Shield was amongst the list. I later went to gift Lucia with her own bow, and she readily accepted. Now if this is actually part of some hidden system where certain children prefer certain gifts, I'm all for it, but that doesn't entirely seem to be the case.
Weird, I haven't seen that myself. You know what that means? It means I need to adopt ALL THE KIDS. I'm willing to make this sacrifice, particularly with RS Children Overhaul, which makes them all just *so adorable.*
But seriously, I'm not aware of anything that changes what the moppets prefer. They should all use the same "BYOHRelationshipAdoptionPlayerGiftChild(male/female)" gift list.
I should note that with both mods I used manual installation. I have finally gotten NMM and am going to see how it fairs there.
As a few other notes: I was unable to give a few toys from the Toy Story collection to the kids, requiring me to disable this one to do so. Though they kept the gifts and lucia even kept her bow equipped. This, admittedly, may be more for the author of Skyrim Toy Story than you. Also, potentially unrelated to this but Sofie seems to be suffering from eye problems and depth perception issues. I watched her practice her knife work on the dummy in the Lakeview Manor basement, and end up going all over the basement foyer, swinging at the air or attacking the pillar.
That, or someone's gotta make a mod where you can hire tutors from like the college or companions to get those kids decently trained.
Not sure you're still having this issue with Sofie, but that could just be the problem she sometimes has where her inventory gets too full because of all the flower baskets she sold. (If it was only the higher weight items causing it, it seems likely.) Sofie tends to glitch before she's adopted -- each day her inventory adds another flower basket to her, so eventually her carry weight gets overloaded, and she can't accept gifts.

Do you think you can port this over to Special Edition? :O
