I second zantariz's suggestion. Opening those menus from the inventory should be possible via SKSE I believe. Too bad I don't know how to make scripts!
How about adding that little knife thing (shiv?) used to pick locks? I was always bothered how your character has that piece of equipment from the start, and you couldn't see it in your inventory.. Could you add it and maybe make it as a weapon too?
I like the concept, but 2 lbs. seems too much for me. The journal could reasonable be 1 lb. and the map could realistically weight a fraction of a pound... say .1 or .2 lbs.
Brilliant mod to make the game more immersive! One suggestion I have is, if possible make the map and quest journal available for purchase at the general good stores in every hold capital and for Morthal & Dawnstar (neither town has a general goods store) purchased from the innkeepers. I think anyone using Random Alternate Start or Live Another Life would appreciate it.
This gives me an idea. I'm not sure if its been done already, but what if you could disable the 3D map from being accessed via the menu, but rather you had to open this map item from your inventory? And maybe you have to actually wield a compass to check your directions (kinda like minecraft)?
It was hidden because it somehow disabled saving and loading as well. You have to remove it and delete the corrupted save to restore the saving and loading.
"Instinctive Exploration" was bugged. Instead "Living takes time" could disable the 3D map when you are in combat so the autor of that mod know how to script something like that.
Living Takes Time can disabled the Journal and Map while in combat, maybe you could talk to the author of that mod and apply it to having those items in your inventory.
Also add, that you can buy detailed map for 300 gold coins in whiterun or solitude, (normal map would just have all the towns marked and nothing else).
From one of the miners, you can buy map of all the mines in skyrim etc,..)
In temple, you get map with all the shrines...
Basically , you have to make collections of all the maps
This seems like the best idea. i like the ability to quickly open the map with a preset keystroke but having to either find a location or buy a map with the location is really cool.
Cool idea. I think you could find those items on dead soldiers they need to navigate. The traveling caravans any of the wandering NPCs would probably have them.

PS: Compatible with "warburg paper map."
Thanks for you mod. Keep working please.
(Sorry for my English, I'm Italian)
