Seven years later, this is still helping people!

I had one of the Creation Club-content-download issues experienced by a few people during the Anniversary Edition-rollout update to Skyrim Special Edition, and, for whatever reason, ended up with an extra, free-floating instance of dlc1referencealiasarrayscript in my save file, presumably from when I was unknowingly playing with an incomplete update to Skyrim SE. Luckily, I keep extensive save backups, and I was able to track down the issue to the very first save after that bugged update.

The extra instance meant that Vampire Seduction wouldn't kick affected NPCs into the "mesmerize" animation, even though it worked in every other way (put the NPC into the don't-care-when-vampires-feed faction, make them non-aggro with a "calm" effect, etc.) This was a pain, because it meant that (1) mesmerized NPCs at counters or work stations couldn't be fed upon, and (2) I had to chase down mesmerized NPCs as they sauntered away from me. And since the "mesmerize" animation is a rare one in the game overall, it took me a bit of digging to figure out what it was even called...!

But after I'd found out exactly which animation wasn't firing, a search led me to this description page of this mod. I used Fallrim/ReSaver to clean the instance from my save file. Presto, the "mesmerize" animation is working perfectly again.

    Many, many, many thanks!

(...and now that I'm able to do forensics on it, I've even narrowed down the exact issue: one of the Creation Club downloads is the fishing-quest update, and in the day or so before the CC-content bug got addressed, I'd used Vampire's Seduction on one of the NPCs from that quest. Talk about a corner case... thanks again!)

This is very interesting. The fix suggests the problem is caused by references not being cleared properly. Unfortunately I don't have any time for modding these days, but I did take a quick look at the script.

The script in question is a quest script, that contains functions for setting, clearing and finding reference aliases on the quest. So if you find wherever those are being called from, you'll probably find the problem, which I would guess is some situations where the clear function might not be called.

Great job tracking down the problem so far, and good luck on the continuing hunt!

Thanks...I was soo frustrated with this thing. I deleted the script file at level 14 and now i'm at level 20 and the mesmerize NPC animation kicks in just fine...for now.
