Unfortunately the packing up feature for tents and bedrolls is broken. You don't get back the items you used.

After some testing, it seems that the packing up bug is triggered by building a tent. If you never build a tent, then your campfires, tanning racks, and bedrolls will all pack up fine.

So for anyone using this mod: DON'T BUILD THE TENT

Is it possible to add more items to be used as fire starters in addition to a torch (BTW, how did my torch get lit in the first place...) or be marked as a firestarter (like BFAI custom bandages)? Here are some items I was thinking of: charcoal, roll of paper (same roll of paper used in BFAI), firewood, deadwood, animal fats from Hunterborn, lantern oil (from Wearable Lanterns by Chesko). Understandably, deadwood and firewood can be found in nature (as referenced in the mod description), but sometimes I have some in my inventory but I have no torch and thus can't make a fire.

The torches are lit with the same method all actors use to light torches in the base game. :D

But yeah, I can add more items as fuel and/or fire starters for the campfire.

I can only add items that's available in the base game, though.

And for items added by 3rd-party mods, I can get users to tag them as appropriate campfire items - like I do with 3rd-party bandages in BFAI.

I've finally managed to release this mod. It's been (almost) ready since Sep 2013, according to my beta 0.7 version (https://sites.google.com/site/kuertee/kuerteeSimpleCamping%200p7%20beta.zip?attredirects=0&d=1)! (Ummm...don't download that. It's an older version. Just here for record.)

But there was a lot of refinement was added in last week or two. Hence the 0.705 version.

This should be compatible with both the Frostfall mod and the Hypothermia mod without any patches.

The campfire is not being detected by Hypothermia Plus. =(

Pity. Last I played, Hypothermia was supported. Dunno why Hypothermia Plus change it's requirement for campfires. Very annoying.

Anyway, I'm back playing again after more than a year off. I'll check out Hyporthermia Plus.

Bleh, just figured it out. For some reason my merged plugin of Hypothermia with the Hypothermia Plus esp files were somehow conflicting with the way that SC fires get detected. Works now =)

Question: after you pack up the tent after sleeping in it, is it supposed to get rid of the pelts? I was just wondering if it's an intended feature for the pelts to be "consumed" after sleeping in the tent, and then packing it up.

All materials should return to your inventory after packing up whatever you constructed. I'll check in my next play through if there's a bug that doesn't return the pelt after packing up the bed roll.

One question, did you attach the bedroll to the campfire? Or was it a free-standing bedroll that you constructed?

I only built a tent, and there was a bedroll that was automatically placed underneath the tent. When I sleep in the tent, then pack it up afterwards, the pelts aren't returned to my inventory. I haven't tried putting all the pieces together; i.e. making a campfire, bedroll and tent.

Ahhh...sorry, you did say tent. I'll check tonight. Thanks for the bug report!

I can confirm that after packing up the tent, the pelts don't return to the inventory. Besides, after clearing the campfire, I got... 21 torches and 21 cast iron pots in my inventory !

      I'll open two bug reports.

Thanks for the confirmation, Elgar. I'll be releasing an update to this with the bug fix - after the updates to my other mods, unfortunately. I have a bit to go through.

Hi Kuertee, since the Bugs reports tab is not enabled for this mod I will make my report here if you don't mind. I tried Simple camping on a new game and I noticed three issues :

    - first, there is this warning in my Papyrus log :
warning: Property kuSCSleepActivatorRef on script kuscqs attached to kuSCQ (21000D62) cannot be initialized because the script no longer contains that property
According to the great guide released by Arthmoor this kind of warning is harmless but easily fixable by the author.

I had only an horse hide and a leather strip in my level 1 character inventory, so I constructed a bedroll then a tanning rack. I love the animation by the way !

    - Here comes the second issue : the tanning rack I constructed was not activable at all. No "E" prompt, nothing. I checked a tanning rack nearby (the one from Riverwood's blacksmith) and it was activable, so it wasn't an issue with my character I guess.

    - I sat down on my bedroll (lovely feature), then I stood up. And then I selected the "pack" option : oddly, my character instantly sat down again, on the floor. There was no bedroll anymore (logical, since I chose the pack option, and in my inventory the horse hide was there), but my character was stuck in this sitting position. I was able to select the menu, look at my inventory, move the camera, etc, but it was impossible to move at all. I had to quit the game.

I'll try to make more tests with tent, cooking pot, etc.

Hmmm, I'm gonna give this a try along with Eat and Sleep plus Hypothermia. A quick question: can I set up camp inside of caves and or other dungeons, as long as there's enough flat space, or is the system limited to outdoor environments?

I'm really liking Hypothermia. I've never had it because I didn't know there was any alternative to Frostfall. I don't like mini-mods that take over the main gameplay of adventuring and questing. Hence, I wasn't taken by FF. But Hypothermia is subtle enough. I prefer mods with effects that impact adventuring and question ONLY when you totally ignore them. I.e. you can ignore their early effects. FF may, in fact, fall into this rule. But it didn't feel like it to me. Hypothermia, however, feels "just" right.

Thank you so much! I'd like to ask some questions though, as we only have one screenshot:

I've been using Craftable and Placeable bedrolls as Elgar mentioned to be able to 'camp' inside dungeons, ruins and interiors in general, and Camping Lite for camping in the wilds and such. With your mod can I camp inside dungeons as well as outdoors? That way I can replace two .esp's...

What types of tents can we craft? with Camping Lite we can have the basic nordic tent, craft pickets to convert it into an imperial tent, and then craft extensions to place bigger tents, so that's why I'm asking... sorry if you already answered it, I read your description page and I might have missed it

      Yes, you can build indoors.

But the tent is that simple "teepee" open at both ends with a bedroll inside. And you can't extend it.

I debated whether to include the ability to build tents for a bit. My intention was to limit what can be built with regards to what can carried by the player. However, I knew questions would be raised if I didn't allow the construction of tents. I decided on the construction of the simplest tent.

Should I expand on it? E.g. for long-term camps instead of the one-shot, temporary camps that I intended this mod for.

If you allow the bigger tents.. then yea, Altho one could argue even the hunters uses similar basic tents.

Oh, how many tents can we set up in 1 place? Or several places? It would be rude if we have several followers and they all have to shower in the rain while sleeping and I'm tucked in under the tent.

Oh, I don't really mind the larger tents, personally I prefer the imperial tent (even if I play as a Nord lol) just because it has closed ends and I feel is more comfortable to sleep in Skyrim. But I can live with the other one! Thank you for your answer, once I get my new laptop up and running I'm getting this

The simple tents are good, but what would be useful for this kind of rough camping is an even simpler shelter: a lean-to. It would be like the simple tent with one side missing, basically. Don't know if it's doable with vanilla assets or if it would have to be created from scratch (it really should be even smaller/lower than the simple tent). But a party of people on foot or personal horses could reasonably carry bedrolls and shelter halves and some small sticks for tent poles, or gather them. The larger tents and campsite items would need a pack mule, really. Now there would be a useful mod.

I would prefer this to remain a really simple "roughing it" mod. I will have to see if it can work alongside Camping Lite (not at the same time, but both active so you could use either one).

I thought about using that lean-to first. It's the most appropriate structure as a portable tent for adventurers. I'll add it and have it use less fur - which will leave you with more fur for bedrolls.

Also, I like the idea of better tents when you have an owned horse nearby. Will look at other bigger tents. If I find one suitable, I'll use it. However, functionally, larger and closable tents offer nothing more other than for role-play purposes.

I might look at my Eat and Sleep (EAS) mod again. The number of energy hours returned from one hour of sleep in that mod is adjusted by bed quality. EAS has no adjustment for SC tents (because their open). I might add an adjustment for closable tents in EAS. That would justify the need for them.

This mod is great, and certainly seems to deserve an endorsement. I've had no technical problems with it so far, and it fills a much needed gap in functionality when using needs mods and when going to places like the Soul Cairn or Forgotten Vale where you are away from beds for a long time. It's a nice, light-weight package that isn't too heavy-handed.

That said, there's one little typo in the description. I wanted to modify the mod's functionality a little bit so that building/tearing down all of the various things doesn't take any time, but none of the sliders in the MCM allowed the time values to go all the way to 0.0. The closest most of them can get is 0.25 hours. I got the change to work through modifying the .ini, but the description says that you have to run the command {bat "ini\\kuerteeSightlessSenses.ini"} from the console in order to make it take effect. The .ini file which is distributed with the mod is titled "kuerteeSimpleCamping.ini," so the command should actually be {bat "Ini\\kuerteeSimpleCamping.ini"}. This fixed my problem, and the error the game gives you makes it pretty obvious what the fix is, but still.

    Good mod; well done.

    Endorsed, thank you !

I have been waiting for this mod since you announced it, I'm really happy to see it released.

Until now I have been using for years "Craftable and Placeable Havok-enabled Bedrolls" by Neuroliquisity which is great but limited to bedrolls. Now it's time to test your mod and its expanded features !
