    INFO and FAQs--

UPDATING--Overwrite when asked. It's best to re-make your bashed/merged patches after an update to make sure leveled lists and shop inventories are re-spawned. Also, if you see any naked npc's afterwards, use the console command 'resurect' to make them equip new outfits (see mod description for more details.)

DSR USERS--Those using DSR should run their patcher so that new shields will be recognized. To be sure that DSR doesn't get confused and use the vanilla models, you should delete the old shieldonback meshes from the various folders i.e. hide/iron/steel/orcish in your meshes/armor folder.

IMMERSIVE ARMORS--Using this mod with mine can interfere with V30E's leveled lists--or any mod for that matter--because it uses scripts to add its armors to the game, which can cause the game to revert to vanilla lists, wreaking havoc with one's save.

I stopped using it years ago--it's just too invasive. Also, IMHO, it doesn't add anything that can't be gotten from better sources anyway, mods that have better compatibility with merged/bashed patches.

    SKYRIM SE--
    https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/24567

IMPERIAL REPLACER--DSR users must re-run their patcher and delete the old Imperial shield meshes in their Skyrim/Data/Meshes/Armor/Imperial folder, because if not, DSR will mix up the shield on back meshes.

    BASHED/MERGED/SMASHED PATCHES ARE YOUR FRIEND
Without a bashed patch the last mod loaded wins--which means you'll have all kinds of unintended problems. For example, let's say you have Ethereal Elven Overhaul--which makes elves look less monstrous. Any mod in your load order that changes an elven npc and comes before EEO--whether it gives them different weapons, changes their stats, changes their outfit or whatever--will have their changes erased by the last mod loaded.

But with a bashed patch--all the changes* made by mods in your load order are combined and play nice together. So for example, in my game, Janessa has her outfit changed by V30E, weapons added by Elven Weaponry, and her face changed by EEO.

I can't stress enough how important it is to use both a merged (TES5EDIT) and bashed patch (Wrye Bash) (or Mator Smash which covers both bases, I hear) if you're modding Skyrim in any serious way.

*unless two mods change the same stat, in that case, a patch is needed, or you'll have to edit yourself in TES5EDIT to get the result you want.

    BLACK/INVISIBLE TEXTURES
This is generally a RAM issue. Try reloading from the main menu, i.e. save, exit to main menu, then reload. You might even need to reload from Desktop. This happens with modded textures in Oldrim, though I've never had it happen in SE.

Also--make sure you're using a memory mod, like one of these, below. It definitely helps make the 'black texture' issue more rare, though it still happens occasionally, at least it did for me in Oldrim.

V30E 3.1--added missing Daedric, Dragonplate, Dragonscale items, replaced cultist and Miraak's robes, added Knight of the Nine surcoat, replaced Skaal fur set with hifoo's MofuMofu coat, added light mail gloves (with recipes), numerous tweaks to leveled lists. Compressed various textures. Rebuild all patches (including DSR) for best results. Barring any game-breaking bugs, this shall be the last LE update. 7/26/19

Hotfix 1.2--Fixes female Ancient Nord Armor. Overwrite esp. file when asked. Includes all missing textures as well. 5/23/19

Missing Texture Hotfix 1.1--added textures for light brown steel splinted boots/gauntlets. 4/28/19

Missing Textures 1.0--For those who started fresh with 3.0. and are missing a few assets. Fixes splinted boots and Falkreath kite shield. Will add more if merited (famous last words.) 4/20/19

V30E 3.0--Fixed issues with problematic textures causing game to lag/freeze. I'm not sure how extensive the problem was, but all the textures have been optimized using DDSopt. Other fixes and additions as well. This update brings an end to the need for the dread hotfixes, though this being Skyrim, I'm sure there will be further problems down the road to contend with. 3/28/19

BS Bruma Patch 1.1--Added missing assets for helm from Nordwar, which replaces the Cyrodiilic leather helmet. 3/28/19

Hotfix 4.8--Added new Draugr armor, fixed dragonplate shield, fixed various clipping issues, numerous additions and fixes. 3/22/19

BS Bruma Patch 1.0--Added new guard armor surcoat, as well as new kite shield, and more variety of helms; replaced the iron armor with an iron scale cuirass, and the heavy variant with scale cuirass and heavy mail hauberk. Replaced the iron boots and gauntlets with the more historic splinted meshes from Nordwar. Added much more variety to the Bandit leveled lists, including Nermie's gambesons. Added Bruma guard armor for sale at the Northern Arms blacksmith shop. Replaced the Colovian fur bandit armor with the much better looking fur clothing mesh. Numerous other additions as well. Must have latest hotfix for new assets. *NOTE--this is a brand new file with a different name, so you'll need to uninstall the older file, though for current play-throughs and older saves you can keep the old file active, and load the new file below the old. DSR users will also need to rebuild their patches, and if you've used the older version, you'll want to rebuild your merged/bashed/smashed patches. Support for BS Bruma Tweaks and Enhancements guard cloaks is included, with re-textured colours to go better with the new surcoat and shield. Be sure to overwrite all meshes and textures when asked. Will eventually add a weapon replacer companion mod for BS Bruma as well. 3/22/19

3DNPC Patch 2.1--Added generic surcoat for Erevan, gave Hiram new Order of the White Rose surcoat and shield, also added the new items to Khajiit caravans for purchase after quest. Various other fixes/tweaks as well. Must have latest hotfix for new assets. 3/22/19

Hotfix 4.6--Fixed surcoat issues, and ebony mail gloves. 3/1/19

Hotfix 4.5--Added ebony mail gloves and new Markarth and Solitude surcoats. All light surcoats are now without ailettes. Added new ebony Coppergate-style Nordwar helm to replace dragonplate helm. New Forsworn shields--nine new variants, plus a mix of bandit, hide, iron, steel--also adjusted shield stats overall to make better sense. Replaced Dremora plate with the scale and ebony mail Deadric armor. Numerous store inventory additions and other fixes. DSR users should re-build their patches, and everyone should re-build their bashed/merged/smashed patches.

Dawnguard Patch 1.3--Added new light surcoats from main mod--without ailettes. 2/28/19

Hotfix 4.4--Added missing Falkreath shield texture. 2/23/19

Hotfix 4.3--Fixed female Forsworn mantle's clipping, and other mesh improvements. Added new surcoats for Falkreath, Riften, Whiterun and Companions. More to come soon. Added new scale byrnies with numerous variants to leveled lists of Forsworn, Bandits, and Stormcloaks. New Nordwar Dwarven helms. Added new mail gloves from jomalley12211's mesh, which replace the Nord Plate Gauntlets. There are also Elven and Thalmor versions.

Imperial Patch 3.8--Added new light scale byrnies to Imperial lists, gave Tullius a new unique oval shield. You must download newest hotfix for assets.

V30E Beyond Reach Patch 1.2--numerous fixes and tweaks. Dragonstar mercenaries now wear V30E Alik'r armors. 2/18/19

Hotfix 4,2--Numerous mesh fixes and other additions. 2/17/19

V30E Beyond Reach Patch--BETA TEST--Replaces Witchmen gear with V30E Forsworn lists. Will add more over time, eventually making it completely compatible aesthetic-wise. Place below V30E main file.

Hotfix 4.1--Numerous mesh fixes, including Credo's leather gloves now work correctly, displaying skin when worn with bare arms, and the world rejoices!

Imperial Patch 3.7--Fixed Credo gloves, i.e. Imperial Leather Gloves, and other additions. 2/13/19

Hotfix 4.0--Fixed masterwork steel boots. 2/12/19

Hotfix 3.9--Fixed naked tavern wenches wild edit. 2/10/19 Uploaded correct file. 2/11/19

    Hotfix 3.82/10/19
*The last vanilla armor holdouts finally replaced--Daedric (for players of all races, but left the Dremora in their otherworldy plate, though I'm open to replacing it as well), dragonscale, and dragonplate, all with ebony hauberk and scale cuirass using Archduke's mesh. The shields are replaced with either the new oval shields from Nordwar, or V30's kite mesh. The helms are ebony re-textures of V30 Early Medieval Valsgarde and nasal. I've also replaced Ysgramor's, Auriel's, and Spellbreaker shields, as well as Savior's Hide armor.
*Fixed clipping of armor and gloves/gauntlets for Alik'r and Simple Hauberks, along with their 1st person meshes.
*Added Tsun outfit from Historical Revival.

    Hotfix 3.72/1/19
    *Various bug fixes.
*New splinted and lamellar greaves and gauntlets from Nordwar. The vendel-style pair replace the Stalhrim stuff, while the scaled are now called 'lamellar.' The Elven variants are new additions, with the leather gloves still replacing the vanilla gauntlets--this makes sense because of the way the outfits and leveled lists are set up.
*Non-Thalmor Elven mail hauberk variants (from Simple Hauberk's mesh) with Elven lamellar gauntlets/greaves to go with them. Sold by Eorlund Greymane--he made Irileth's set, so it makes sense he has a few for sale. Niranye in Windhelm also sells some, as well as the blacksmith in Riften, who sells a purple variant, the castle smith in Markarth who sells a green, and a red variant in Solitude.
*New Vendel-style helm from Nordwar. Sold by Eorlund, and in Windhelm, worn by Stormcloaks.
*Jarl Elisith now wears something a bit less goofy.
*New iron shield model from Nordwar.
DSR users should re-build their patches to recognize new shield, and everyone should rebuild their bashed/merged/smashed patches as well.

    Imperial Patch 3.62/1/19
Updated Imperial patch to take advantage of new bracers, the Imperial heavy gauntlets are now the same as the splinted iron. Added Imperial tunics which are sold in Radiant Raiment in Solitude.

HOTFIX 3.5--Fixed shiny Dawnguard surcoats. 1/24/19

HOTFIX 3.3--uploaded corrected mesh for male guards and mail byrnies. Sorry everyone. 1/21/19

    HOTFIX 3.2--1/20/19
*Finally fixed the sleeve meshes on tunics and guard armors--the clipping that has been a bane since V30's original YAGA. Also fixed clipping with the Simple Hauberks and the new splinted gauntlets, as well as some boots.
*New textures for vanilla children clothes to better match their parents. I might also do a patch for RS Children, to get rid of the 'Huckleberry Finn" vanilla-based clothing added by the mod, replacing it with variants of the new re-textures.
*Gave Pale guardmen better armor--mail byrnie and leather lamellar, in place of simply padded and leather.

    V30E Dawnguard Patch
Gives the Dawnguard and Vigilants of Stendarr new surcoats, also adds variant armors and changes both factions outfits to add more variety. You must download Hotfix 3.2 for the new assets, and load V30E_DawnguardPatch below the main mod--it's dependent on it, not a standalone--or you'll get a ctd. DSR users will need to re-run their patchers for the new Dawnguard shield to be worn on back.

    V30E 2.0
So the new version replaces most of the vanilla armors that were left--as well replacing the old High Medieval period stuff, and bringing all the content up to the same look. 500-1200 AD is the limit of what I'm going for. We're talking Arthurian knights and Late Roman inspired gear on one end, and Norman-styled hauberks, nasals and pothelms at the other, with everything else comfortably in the Migration/Viking/Dark Ages in between.

So what does this mean? Well no more plate armor--though I've made an exception for the Daedric, seeing as how they're from another plane and all--though this might change, depending on feedback. So we're talking mail byrnies and hauberks and at the most coat-of-plates, lamellar, scale, etc, with greathelms being at the forefront of technology, and all made of the various metals of Skyrim lore. (One vanilla set I won't be replacing is the bonemould, or other Morrowind armors, which just wouldn't make sense IMHO.)

    1. New conformity of the overhaul, with an eye toward the period 500-1200 A.D. No more plate armor or high fantasy. A new weapon replacer mod will be released soon to compliment these changes.
    2. New replacers for Nord Plate, Ebony, Elven, Glass, Vampire, and Orcish armors and shields using content from Archdukeoflandsee and Grey_Hunter.
    3. New Forsworn mantles and leveled lists additions, giving the Reachmen much more variety.
    4. New simple Nord tunics, various splinted gauntlets and boots, along with countless revamped leveled lists, shop inventories, outfits, etc.
    5. The Imperial patch is completely revamped, with much more variety, including new content from Archduke and Grey_Hunter.
    6. The Nord Plate Replacer Addon is now moot--with the Nord plate armor now replaced by a heavy mail hauberk--but a dummy esp. is uploaded for current saves, to keep your load orders intact. It should be jettisoned at the earliest opportunity.
    7. 3DNPC patch has been updated to the new mod, specifically giving Erevan and Hiram the new mail hauberks.
    8. Glass armor pieces are now called 'Thalmor,' while the Nord plate is 'Masterwork Mail Hauberk,' ''Masterwork Pothelm,' 'Masterwork Splinted Greaves,' and 'Mail-lined Gloves.'

UPDATING INSTRUCTIONS--Overwrite everything when asked--including assets from Archdukeoflandsee and Grey_Hunter, because many have been re-textured/had their file paths changed. Also re-build your merged/bashed, as well as your DSR patch for the numerous new shields.

I've also updated the SUGGESTED LOAD ORDER on the front page.

    1. You will need to download this version of Chronicles of Steel, because it's used as a master file--which was the only way we could use the assets. It's the only outside download--other than Real Bows*--that you'll need. All the other meshes/textures are included. Eventually I will release the mod on it's own page, but only after we've tested it here.

    The Chronicles of Steel--
    https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12506/

TCoS replaces most of the steel and iron weapons, the Nordic and Stahlrim, as well as various others.

You should also have Real Bows installed, to cover the bows the V30E Weapons Replacer doesn't touch.

    https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/64440

    2. Imperial, Forsworn, and other weapons are replaced with content from Historical Overhaul.

    https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/10740/

    3. Orcish, Daedric, and other weapons are courtesy of Andragorn.

    https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/36835

    4. Various maces come from Moraelin's Maces.

    https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/10980/

5.Ebony, Elven, Dwarven, and various other weapons are courtesy of jet4571.

    https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/users/2811323

This is a very early beta, so there are bound to be bugs, especially in a mod of this scope--plus it's me we're talking about. So report them here and I'll fix them asap.

If you happen to already have all the mods listed above--or their assets in your data folder, you technically only need to install the esp. Of course, I would only recommend doing this if you know what you're doing.

There are currently no npc or leveled list edits, nor any shop inventory changes. I'll probably do more, but for now this is simply a straight vanilla replacer.

Please let me know if you find any weapons I missed, including quest/reward/unique items, etc.

Also note that the glass weapons haven't been addressed, I'm still considering ways to deal with them. Your suggestions and thoughts are welcome.

I will rename the various weapons that make sense, i.e. 'Orcish Warmace' for 'Orcish Warhammer,' in the next few updates.

Load below TCoS, and above any replacer mod you already use and want to keep.

*Having LeanWolf's Better Shaped Weapons or Skyrim Blade Overhaul installed is still a good idea for those few vanilla weapons, like the Elven sword and glass stuff, which I left unaltered.

Wish there was a file for a non-replacer version, that just adds them to the normal leveled list without touching guards, armies, or named characters, for compatibility with other replacers.
