I have retired from modding Skyrim. I hereby give blanket permission for anyone to use, modify, rehost or port any of my content to Special Edition, provided proper credit is given.
It has been a blast being a part of this community and it makes me very happy that my work is still appreciated by so many. Have fun creating!
Latest News FiendishGhoul released a very cool addon to Barenziah's Glory here. It brings back the magical glow from the original gems while retaining my gem cut and most of the sparkles. You should give it a try!
In other news, I've managed to snag a really great project for my bachelor thesis at my university. While this is an absolutely stellar opportunity for me and I'm very happy to be here, it also means that I am once again too busy to mod until late December. I'm very sorry to anyone who was waiting for a particular update, I simply can't make it happen.
Very cool, Saerileth! Thanks for the update. I'll add lordjoseph7 to my tracking list, and that way, when he gets around to this mod, I'll see what needs to happen for me to be able to port my mod to SSE.
Looks like the installer is still corrupted... For example, it doesn't matter whether I pick the Crown Texture 1K or "none", everything gets installed. The main files are the same as the optionals. Or am I getting this all wrong?
Are you sure you have the latest version (2.0)? I just checked, and the main folder definitely does not contain the same files as the optionals. I also tested the installer with Nexus Mod Manager, and it seems to be working fine.
Unfortunately I don't use Mod Organizer, so I can't test that. But the installer was made by TechAngel from the STEP team specifically to be used with MO, I trust he checked that it works.
Thanks for looking into it! Hmm I see, I might have been a bit premature haha. But what exactly gets changed to the Crown when I don't choose the textures for it in the installer? Only gems? Is it possible to use another mod for the Crown textures but keep your gems?
Yes, it changes the gems (both in texture and in the mesh). You can use any other replacer for the base crown, in fact, I recommend it - my textures are just a slightly desaturated version of the original. You can also use any replacer for the box, but I really recommend Gamwich's version. It's the best quality texture I've seen so far.
Okay, that's exactly what I'm doing right now! I'm using Real Gold Trophies for the Crown, and your mod for the gems. Yep I'm also using Gamwich's box, he's a god at retexturing haha! Thanks
It does change the gems on a mesh level (for both crown and box), that's what the main file does. It gives them transparency and sparkly reflections inside and a proper gemstone cut, look at some of the closeup pictures for how different it is. You can't install the mod without this.
In addition, you get to choose a texture for the box and one for the crown. Or don't install one, and use a texture from another mod. However, any retexture you choose will not affect my gems (e.g. there are some that change gem colour etc.), because I change the gems on a mesh level so that won't work. The texture will work fine on everything else, so it's not really an incompatibility...
Alright, thanks for the explanation, I think I understand it a little bit haha! You change the gems on mesh level no matter what I choose, but the texture/color is unaffected for the gems.
2.1 Update Gamwich made a fantastic new texture for the base crown to match his work on the jewelry box. I added it to the all in one installer, check it out!
If you're not interested in a retexture or use another mod already, then there's no reason to redownload the installer, you can stick with v2.0.
Let's make this official: All my mod projects are currently on hold, because I am incredibly busy with other things at the moment.
Unfortunately this means that there will be no updates to any of my mods for quite a while. I may have some time to work on them occasionally, but I can't promise anything. I would like to apologise to all the people that I've promised stuff to, you have been super patient with me in the past and I am very sorry about this new delay. I'll let you know when I make any progress.
I will still be lurking about the site and answer comments occasionally, so I'm not gone for good! I'm too addicted to modding to quit XD. So thank you for your patience, and hopefully I'll be back soon.
Hi, thanks for the mod. Just wanted to ask a question about the file structure. I understand how textures are replaced by using the same file structure and same texture names as the vanilla files, but when downloading this mod I have a new folder called Saeri Jewelry and inside is Barenziah.dds and ring_gems.dds, and my question is how does the game know to use these 2 texture files inside this folder. Sorry if its a noob question.
This is a mesh replacer, not just textures. Notice how you also get a folder "meshes/clutter/quest", this follows the vanilla file structure so the game will use my meshes instead of the originals. The textures are then linked to a custom path in my meshes.
This is actually necessary, because my reflective gem setup wouldn't work without custom meshes. Besides, the originals don't even have separate textures for the gems, so there's no file structure to mimic there.
Isn't that neat? That's how mods like SMIM and the Realistic HD series (the food one is a good example specifically) also make the game use custom textures with simple mesh replacers, just point the mesh at the new texture(s). Many of SMIM's textures are kept together in a custom folder, which is often why SMIM needs specific patches for some texture replacer mods (there's one for charcoal that comes to mind) so that the SMIM texture is replaced, not just the vanilla one, which the mesh no longer uses. I've done the same thing in New Vegas, too - gave my Courier's home a nice old world banner where before there had been a Brotherhood of Steel symbol by simply pointing the mesh to a new texture.

Thanks again!
Would be a nice mod project for someone.

But to get this straight, your mod (v2.1) does not change the gems on the Crown right? Only the jewelry box has new textures and gems right?

I'm sorry if this is even more confusing.
