I don't get it. If you're roleplaying a "good" character morally obliged to not kill random priests and/or partake in cannibalism, well then... why would you want to have Namira's ring anyway? And don't tell me it's for achievement hunting, cause it doesn't go along with roleplaying)) No. I just don't see a point in a "good" way of getting an "Evil" artifact. If you're playing as freakin' vigilant of Stendar, you do not do daedric quests, or you just fail them, thus thwarting their schemes to influence mortals. Sorry about the rant, but I felt like it has to be said).
Well, not wanting to kill the priest might be caused by something else than being good. For example, it would be out of character for my dragonborn to kill Verulus, because while he isn't good, he isn't some sort of "Evil mc'Angrypants" either - he's a practical guy who cares for little but money, personal amusement and safety of his collection (which is all things he has AND all people whom he finds interesting/amusing enough to maintain some sort of friendship-like thing with). So: he wants the Ring because it's useful and cannibalism isn't something new to him - meat is meat! - but he wants to have Verulus in his "collection" as well, and that's enough of a reason to search for a way to get both. Other people might have other reasons, but I think mine is a good enough example.
Will you please add an outcome where Brother Verulus becomes a follower and marriable NPC after helping him in this quest? That's the real reward versus the ring. Currently, I just have it as an unfinished quest so I can keep him following me as a mage but this would make it more functional.
Thank you for making this! I am going to try to make this a mod in the creation kit but you might know how better
Great mod! Before I always had to add the ring using the console, since my character is a cannibal, but isn't the kinda guy to kill Verulus ('cuz the priest's ability to immediately trust an old, scary elf who clearly isn't a good guy by any stretch of imagination is too amusing to waste it, plus even though it isn't in the game, realistically befriending a priest would be more practical than eating him), but now I can do the quest without acting out of character and I thank you for that.
I think the good way of doing this quest would be perfect if Bethesda had only supplied an alternate path to actually DO the quest, only for Brother Verilus instead who gives you alternate objectives if you tell him what Eola is up to. Explaining her bizarre request makes Verilus quickly realize Namira is involved. He has you go ahead and clear out the cave and report back to him after Eola makes another request. Once done he has you return with him and together you fight the cannibals (if done this way, the merchant lady from Markarth should be replaced by a generic NPC as not to lose out on her quest &trade. Banning and the meat guy I couldn't really care if they disappeared from the game or not. Once Eola and her followers are defeated you help Verilus cleans the shrine so that no other worshippers can use it as a conduit to speak to Namira. As a reward he gives you a cool item, something having to do with Arkay, maybe an Aedric ring or necklace that has some good enchantments on it, maybe even adds a greater power to use daily that can do something like regen 100 points of health per second for ten seconds or the like that can save your butt in a tough fight where you are about to die.
Your mod supplies a quest ending which I always thought belonged in the vanilla game. I installed half way through the taste of death, and your mod worked flawlessly. Thank you.
I still don't like the ring itself, it prompts me to cannibalize a dead body or loot an enemy every time. For RP reasons and convenience I don't care for this. Like if my character has a problem with cannibalism , why would it want a ring that asks to cannibalize every time you select a corpse? I would rather there be a mod to receive an alternative ring but that's a little much and borders on a full rework of the quest.
Anyway, I managed to use skyrim creation kit to create an identical ring, however my knowledge in the program is very limited. I removed the enchant from it, however it's still the same model. I couldn't get the giveitem command to work as well, so I just dropped it into the map itself and picked it up in-game... I re-named the ring Purified Ring of Namira. As it has no enchant on it, I plan on enchanting it with a stam enchant to compensate for not using the real ring. I even went as far as to find the voice of namira outside of the map, remove essential, and kill her as well.
Perhaps give an option for the Priest to purify the ring after the fact? I just want more options in general to say FU to daedra in their quests but still complete the quest, even if I don't always get an artifact.
How about this for a way to get the ring and the achievement but also be able to roleplay as a good character(actually this would work for all the artifacts to be honest):
A faction or quest line where you acquire all the artifacts for the Vigilants of Stendar and then they or even you would destroy them all. If it was a faction then you could learn that the leader or another faction-mate on high has been keeping some of the artifacts because (s)he was tempted by the Daedric Princes and you have to defeat him/her and then become head of the Vigilants.
I'm not 100 percent on the lore of the Vigilants so i don't know if its lore friendly for some random person to join them and then climb the ranks and become the leader. I don't even know if they have a hierarchy or leader.
I also understand what an absolute huge undertaking a mod like that would be but that's my idea for what it's worth.
