That could be done as well, but if you ever need to reinstall SSR, the changes would be lost.
You could drag and drop the changes on TES5Edit and then recompress SSR with these changes and put it on your mod managers folder, so you will always have an altered backup of SSR ready to be installed.
Good idea, enchanted gloves of lockpicking actually making lockpicking worse bothered me too until I took the relevant perk to remove the penalty. But it still doesn't make sense, as the gloves are not fingerless... How about using the model for the shrouded hand wraps from the dark brotherhood?
Jokes aside, that looks like a promising mod. You should also consider this one: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/22217/? (and include fingerless gloves instead of regular ones).
