Does this work if you already talked to Maul?

A pretty late reply but related to this post.

If you you already talked to Maul, this mod will work as long as the quest "Taking Care of Business" is not yet active and by applying "SetStage TGCrown 10" through the console. During this quest, Vex seems to be programmed not to accept dialogues with the player.

So, if your active quest is still at "A Chance Arrangement," just use the console command above and talk to Vex. When you complete this quest, you will be forced to join the Thieves Guild. Tested to be working with MO2.

    IMPORTANT!

To those that have problems with this mod, if you have a mod that let you stash quest items and you have stashed the first stone you found it breaks this mod and it will not work.

If you done so and don't want to restart a new game then use my solution below to be able to do the "No Stone Unturned" quest without joining any Guilds.

    ***
Here you see what you need to write in the console or make your own .bat file.

    setstage TGCrown 10
    setobjectivecompleted TGCrown 10 1

    setstage TGCrown 20
    setobjectivecompleted TGCrown 20 1

    set TGCrownGemsFound to 24
    set TGCrownGemsTotal to 24

    setstage TGCrown 30
    setobjectivecompleted TGCrown 30 1

    setstage TGCrown 40
    setobjectivecompleted TGCrown 40 1

    setstage TGCrown 50
    setobjectivecompleted TGCrown 50 1

    setstage TGCrown 200
    setobjectivecompleted TGCrown 200 1

Would you mind to explain a bit more what happens ?
That the lines you postet here just finish the  quest without ever have done it ?

And much more important: Would you mind to write down in the explanation of your mod, that its VERY IMPORTANT not to have a unknown gem when you speak to Maul the first time , just to be at the safe side ?

And eventually you could link to a mod that is working, maybe someone else made it.
Cause as it looks i have to join the thiefs guild now. I don't like cheating.

If you don't like cheating why are you using mods? Besides, it's not cheating when a developer intentionally leaves
access to The Developers Console and "Help" commands that give you, the player direct access to codes to make
modifications! This makes a game more valuable. It extends play and revolutionizes replay and modding possibilities!
I doubt you'll see this since your comment was over 3 years ago.

It would be much easier then just to add the crown to the players inventory? It's not much of a "mod" if you have to type multiple lines in the console or make .bat file, that immediately makes this "mod" redundant. Also, the console is primarily used for testing mechanics, not to "modify the game, or extend it's possibilities xD

It isn't working for me, for some reason. I use Mod Organizer and made sure that your mod had 'final say' in the matter, but talking to Maul gives me an arrow over his head but no more dialogue options for him. Pushed my way through to the TG, did their first few missions, and talked to Vex. Same issue - quest *says* it completed, but gems are still 'Unusual Gem" and the quest remains active in my log, saying "Talk to Vex..." while Vex won't even discuss it.

Only other 'stones'-related mods in my mod ot are a texture/model replacer and the quest marker adder.

If this happens you'll have to join the Thieves Guild and she'll respond to you then. See my first post for some shortcuts that will have you where you want to go within an hour. No long dungeon crawls. This actually took me a LOOOONG time the first time. Even when I found this site and got the locations...

Unfortunately doesn't work for me. I talk to Maul and that's it. The quest updated as usual - need to join the thieves guild. If I don't and go down to the Flaggon Vex does not have any conversation topic for me except Lockpicking training. Also if I force the quest to next stage with console command "setstage TGCrown 10" which will make me a TG member and jurnal says "talk to Vex" Vex still doesn't have anything to say except Lockpicking.

Yup. You're going to have to talk to Brynjolf and go through to meeting Mercer and officially join The Thieves Guild. At some point
you can simply quit talking after finishing one thing before starting the next and not have any unfinished quests laying about. Grin.

I'm playing this on PC so I can use the "Cheat (Developer's) Console". I'm replaying the game
after a 3-4 year "time out". I have found a way to complete the early quest line in about an hour.
I've reconstructed my "personal shorthand" notes as "readable" & if this doesn't work perfectly
it definitely will allow anyone to quickly complete this quest line for a new character if they have
used The Console. Many early "Quests" double as Tutorials so play them fully first time played!
Note: I have Skyrim Legendary Edition and all official DLCs.

The best way is to open the Console (Hit key below the Esc [`] tilde to open console.) and enter:

    player.additem 9dfbb 24(all 24 "Stones of Barenziah/Unusual Gem") and
    player.additem 9dff5 1 ("Crown of Barenziah")

Do this before ANY interaction with the Thieves Guild. When I first entered Riften north gate
I made a U-turn to the right as there is a small area where no one will bother you. (Like Maul!)
And you can do some snooping around to see what's what before you are stopped by him.

If this "Guild Bypass" Mod works for you (it seems about 50/50, it didn't work for me) when you
meet "Vex" with all 24 & the empty Crown she will give you the finish & reward or the next step.
Hopefully the Guild Bypass will work & you may get this done in 10 or 15 minutes! The reward
is a VERY good one. It generates wealth throughout the game & DLCs! (It'll have you checking
EVERYTHING for tons of extra Gems that are loot & so aren't stolen...)

If you already have some "Unusual Gems" you can just add the difference from 24 or, not
to worry, Tomilia, Delvin's "Guild fence/lookout" in The Ragged Flagon (Thieves Guild hideout/
operating center will give you 72-75 gold each for any you may have extra or find later.
Note: Some aren't labeled "Steal" but you will get caught as if they are if you pick one up!

It's best to actually play through from the first visit to Riften but here is a safe way to skip the
whole "A Chance Arrangement" quest with the frame up job in the market: Must be daytime.

    A Chance Arrangement Quest Stages:
    setstage TG00 5
    setstage TG00 10
    setstage TG00 20
setstage TG00 30 and talk to Brynjolf all right there in the market while hearing the guard
arrest the vendor you set up. Brynjolf will tell you to find your way to The Ragged Flagon
in the "Rat Way". It's full of bad guys so as soon as you enter go in the Console & enter:

killall (this kills every bad thing in a wide circle and will sicken necessary NPCs.)

To fix a friend or revive a horse you rode off a cliff go in the Console, click on each & enter:

resurrect 1 (this will restore health & usually their possessions. Handy for dead horses!)

This will save you a lot of fighting and none of them are important. I just go in, killall then

tcl(Toggles Collision on/off.) Look for the entry symbol to your right and just walk through
walls till you get there. You'll have to speak to Brynjolf at night because if the mod failed Vex
won't want to talk to you. Just do what Brynjolf tells you and she'll ultimately come through.

Brynjolf will give you a quick test quest called "Loud and Clear" which is so fast and easy
it's kind of fun to do again. Remember, chose polite, modest/humble answers to get others
to respond positively. Even Maul won't let you ask about the gems value if you're arrogant.

When you have the additems fast travel to Riften and Maul will speak to you. He will give
you the quest "No Stone Unturned" when you ask him what it's worth and gives Quest to
become member of The Thieves Guild:

    No Stone Unturned Quest Stages:
setstage TGCrown 10 Become full member and get access to Vex.
    setstage TGCrown 20
    setstage TGCrown 30
setstage TGCrown 40 I tried talking with Vex between each stage. No luck, talk to Brynjolf!

Reward: Ability "Prowler's Profit" which greatly multiplies chance of finding multiple precious
gems in chests, burial urns, corpses and such. I think it actually modifies "the dice roll"
settings in the Skyrim game itself. It keeps .working from then on very noticeable difference.

Here are codes I had used before this in case they made it work. "tgm" Toggle God Mode
"tcl" Toggle Collision (Walk through walls, fly) "tmm 1" Toggle Map Markers On. 0 for Off

To move to an NPC, type the following in the console: "player.moveto 28938" for Vex. You
can do this from anywhere, but it's NOT good for escaping if caught before guards arrive
because your "body" stays where you were! It IS handy when on one of her "jobs" to jump
to her and immediately getting paid, and getting the next job. You'll be back at where you
moved from when you want to Fast Travel elsewhere..

And one last bit of hopefully overall helpful information: You can use this to remove ANY
item from your inventory, even Quest Items. I got stuck with a Gold Claw because there were
two item codes for some, like that claw. One regular code and a different one for the quest.
Try this with gold to see how it works: player.additem 0000f 99999 and it will give you 99,999
gold. Now try this: player.additem 0000f -99994 and you will have 5 gold. Works on quest
items if you search for the item cluttering your inventory if you have the right code. When you
add a positive number with a - or negative number it behaves like subtracting...
    Enjoy. SkyrimFanMan1

P.S. I generally play through these games without codes or mods. Then I go crazy and it
radically extends game play and replayability. I LOVE it!!!

Just downloaded and installed this today alongside Requiem/BTC and many other mods using MO. Works flawlessly.
