Brilliant, As Used by auxiliary's who formed the bulk of the Roman army and Cavalry.

The large sheilds were really used but these where far more common especially in the latter day's of the empire, lighter and more easily wielded they probably came into increasing favor as the Spatha short sword that was double edged and could be used to hack and slash replaced the short stabbing Gladius, some even blame the Spatha for a breaking down of the original Roman method of shield wall fighting as instead of letting the enemy crash upon your shield then stabbing him the Spatha promoted more flamboyant one on one tactic's tempting the soldier to leave his place beside his comrade's in order to attack.

At first brilliant by the end of Empire the Roman's (who by this time were soft city living men who no longer marched the twenty Roman miles a day in full kit, demolishing there camp at the start of the march and building a fresh fortified camp at the end of the march, to keep fit for battle) seem to have forgotten how to fight like the legionaries of Ceaser once had, possible because of the changing weapon's and new tactic's they required.

Today the modern consensus is that the Goth's beat them through superior weapons but historically that does not wash as when Ceaser led his legion's with short (1 foot to 18 inches) Spatha and spear's against Celt's who had superior metallurgy (Better steel) and three foot long double edged sword's they still beat the superior numbers of the larger and better armed celtic warriors using those famous Roman tactic's.

As a stand alone this is very nice indeed but have you looked at this very extensive and on going Roman conversion mod, ever wanted to wear some Lorica Segmentata, http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/10740/? and http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/32988/?

Your shield is well worth having as it look's nicer than the similar one in the revival mod and of course can be used with it.

Will endorse oh and ignore me I have a terrible habit of typing too much of what I am thinking.

I realised there was a Rome conversion mod and it looked very accomplished. I wanna check it out when I clean out the mod folder and re-install everything as my game has gotten buggy as hell by now. Anyways I guess I kinda wanted Roman gear but TES themed, if you know what I mean. Hence the dragon rather than the Roman insignia. I am thinking of taking it further along those lines, and I'm already working on a hybrid between the imperial sword of Skyrim and a Roman spathus. I started out going for just a spathus but felt like making it more fantasy-flavored. But not as over-the-top (unrealistic proportions and so on) as much of the stuff in Skyrim. I'd like to get into armor too even though I'd have to get accustomed to skin partitions and all that 3dMax stuff. Then do the stormcloaks and generic stuff... It's as good a time as any for modding Skyrim with all the breakthroughs in animation going on.

You seem to know Roman militaria pretty well, any suggestions as for a heavy shield? Both light and heavy look the same as of now.

I like your shield a little more though there are some similar in that mod, I would say your texture look's a higher quality but there's are Roman based, it just changed the imperial soldiers into Roman soldier's and there is an optional ESP to turn the Stormcloaks into Celtic Warrior's, does not effect any of the quest line's but the Roman legion in skyrim look a hell of a lot more intimidating.

This is exactly what I was looking for some time ago to use alongside the Wrath of the Emperor armor. This is perfect. Thanks.
