      I wish.

I'm not a modeler. I'm not a graphic artist, either. I'm a novelist - which means I have lots of ideas for mods and storylines, but not the skills necessary to do much more than this or that Gawain mod. Making models and textures from scratch or modding current ones - way outside my skillset.

I could probably give him Shadowmere's saddle or something like that, but as for making a custom one - yeah, I don't have the skills for that.

I imagine there are a few mods out there that have more interesting saddles, though, so I might take a look and provide a link to one or two in the description box.

...You know what we need in Skyrim? Chariots.

If you want to give him custom textures to make him stand out more, I can help you. I've made several custom horses for myself and friends, and it actually isn't very complicated to add a unique skin for a horse as long as you have the resources.

I'd accept that offer, but I'm not sure I could get it working myself.

I've had some issues with custom textures, meshes, and scripts from other mods. I tried to install a Dark Souls Weapons mod, but even though the weapons' didn't glitch or cause the game to freeze, all my character was swinging around was empty air. It was like Skyrim wasn't reading the stuff in the "Meshes" and "Textures" folders for some reason.

Maybe I need to change something in the Prefs INI file.

Or maybe it's because I'm running Skyrim pretty low, on account of my laptop not being that powerful.

The strange thing is, I can see them when I place them in-world in the Creation Kit, but they're invisible if I use Console Commands to put them into my inventory.

Yeah, if your computer isn't quite up to the task of running the game, it can cause all sorts of graphical issues, especially with mods that have detailed meshes and textures. Ini editing should not be required for the game to detect mod files, so I would wager that it's your laptop lacking the memory to load everything in properly.

I could of course download the mod and make the changes myself, but you came up with the original idea, so I wouldn't feel quite right doing that.

The other thing to take into consideration is that his color was chosen on purpose - his name, Liath Macha, literally means "Gray of Macha," and Cu's other horse, Dub Sainglend, means "Black of Sainglend," although who or what Sainglend is has never really been explained and no one on the internet seems to know.

Yeah, my laptop isn't that great. It was never designed for gaming, so even running Skyrim at all is pushing its limits. I'll need to get a new computer soon anyway, so when I have the money, I'm going to invest in something that can game pretty well. In the meantime, like I said, I'm a novelist, so I couldn't resist making a few mods to match my mythological interests, and I've got a whole slew of mods I downloaded just for the day I'll be able to play with them on.

Creativity is a bit of a curse, because what you can dream up in your head and what you can make real are separated by an impossibly large gulf called "reality."

Oh, I wasn't suggesting you make him an entirely different color or anything. There are plenty of variations on the grey horse texture for this game, and I thought using one of those would make him stand out more, especially since he's a legendary horse and all. But then I'm also really insistent on the player's horse looking distinct from the others in the game, which is why I've made my own.

an Irish saddle would be nice. Not sure if the Irish used saddles at that time.Thinking of starting another game as Irish with a shilleleagh

Great looking horse! Does he have unlimited stamina and hit points? It seems he can gallop without ever resting and I have sat back while he was attacked with sword and flames for over ten minutes of real time and he never died.

That's...weird. He's fought for me, before. In fact, I actually had some trouble when I went to get the screenshots for this mod, because he got into a fight with that frostbite spider you see in the background of pic two.

Do you have any other horse or mount mods added? The only thing I can think of that might result in that odd behavior is that his "stay here" package is telling him to stand still instead of fight, but I don't know why that would happen for you and not for me.

Actually, his AI attributes are set to "Aggressive/Brave/Helps Friends and Allies." He should be tearing it up with you.

At level 5, his base health is about 1800 and his base stamina is about 1900. That means he can take a beating and keep on going, and he can keep galloping practically all the way from Whiterun to Solitude. His speed is also set to 115, which makes him 15% faster than any other horse in Skyrim - to my knowledge, at least. I never checked Shadowmere's speed stats.

Do you have Convenient Horses installed? I've found that whatever AI settings you have for your horse there will usually override the default behavior, even for custom horses.

I've tried to reply three times now and each time my post was lost to the dark essential of cyberspace.I had Summonable Shadow mere installed and I uninstalled it to see if it was conflicting. No luck, even on a cleaned save. I started a new game and Liath fought up until I mounted him, and then he would fight no more. I tried loading get the .esp last in my load order and it did not help.

      That's...really weird.

Is anyone else having that sort of trouble? I'd like to say that I didn't, but I didn't bother to test that because my main concern was mostly "will he fight" and "will he appear at his spawn point properly?" But I don't recall having any trouble.

I just read on the Tumbajamba mounts mod page that someone was having the same problem with the mount not fighting after it had been mounted.
