I've always had a problem with this as well. Bethesda sometimes has a ham-fisted way of implementing quests (whether they're trying to force you into a quest or block you from it) that kills roleplaying/immersion, and this seems like a good, simple solution to this one. Would love to see an SE version of this, if anyone has the technical know-how to do so.

I've always found it weird that this quest is one of the few that doesn't just drop the quest on you when there's obviously something that needs doing
    Nice work, chief

    It's a nice idea!
But as alternative vanilla ways to enter and start the quest, I'm not sure if you all are aware that doing the drinking contest with Sam Guivenne will send you to the temple and also makes you start the Heart of Dibella quest as well (I'm now very sure the details because I played that mission quite a long time ago and never re-did it). I'm not going to be a spoiler if you never did it, so you can give it a try!

This mod contains a script which conflicts with the Unofficial patch. When I play the quest with this mod installed, the sisters go hostile on me as soon as Hamal force greets me. I fixed the problem by deleting the script file from this mod QF_T01_00023B6C.pex so it does not conflict with the Unofficial patch.

What about going the route of Meridia's quest, and having a nice echo-y voice flat out tell you, you're needed inside, (and incidentally unlocks the door, since you're going for the good guy route).
If you want to go really dramatic, you could do that plus somehow turn the player to face the statue and darken the room except for around the statue so only its really visible.

This one ranks in the list with the Dark Brotherhood starter quest. For or against them, you still get to commit a murder to get the ball rolling.

Well, number one: I don't have the modding skills to do something like that. Number two: Meridia is a Daedric Lord and Dibella is a Divine or an Aedra if you prefer. Daedric Lords prefer to make contact in such spectacular ways... however, Divines prefer to be more subtle, since they tend to not meddle in mortal affairs unless absolutely necessary. So this is a more likely scenario of how Dibella would "inspire" someone to do her bidding.

The only difference between a Daedric Lord and an Aedric Lord is that the Aedric Lords used some of their powers to create the mortal plane and became able to be killed, unlike the Daedra, who have their full powers and cannot be killed. Because of their role in the creation of the mortal plane (Mundus), the Aedric Lords are revered by the mortal people.

I personally think the Aedric Lords would interact with the mortal people just like any Daedric Lord except for one problem: Daedric Lords do fight among each other (as demonstrated by the Malacath and Bothiath conflict) and the Aedric Lords feel, individually, cannot stand up to the full power of any single Daedric Lord. Even weakened Daedric Lords like Malacath are far stronger than Aedric Lords. This is probably why some people feel like the Divines are more subtler than the Daedric Lords. The Divines cannot risk open warfare or be wiped off the face of the universe. The fact that the Dunmer revere three Daedric Lords rather than any Aedric Lords show how weak the Aedric Lords really are. If the Aedric Lords were on par with Daedric Lords, the Dunmer would worship the Eight/Nine Divines.

An interesting piece of lore you bring up here, Max235. Didn't know that, though I read many books in-game, so thanks
Great mod btw, small, but immersive. Better one tiny original thing instead of 10 house/weapon mods, I think. So thanks to both of you

I wouldn't be too sure about that. Akatosh stood up to Mehrunes Dagon well enough.

I use "Give Gifts to anyone in Skyrim" by MimiTheAlchemist, and the temple is allways wide open!

I always hated the way this quest started too but actually didn't mind stealing some statue from some stuffy temple since the drunk guy would just sell it and they would get it back eventually anyway. I guess the reason why you are asked to help and get the quest is because it seemed like the player is pretty good at sneaking around so they would have a good chance to get the kid back alive or something like that but the reception downstairs afterward was not wanted. I wanted to smack someone around after having to fight through those thugs there.

Maybe you could put an option in the scripting where if the player refused to steal the statue but still went to the temple AND they were wearing a certain level armor or were at a certain experience level, some npc could be in the lobby there and ask for help in getting the girl back?
