    Game Launcher

    Latest News:

    For anyone that's interested, I've just uploaded version 1.4, which has these updates:

    • Complete redesign of the Game Setup window.
    • Several miscellaneous fixes and various tweaks.

    The Game Launcher is an alternative to the Windows Game Explorer application, and allows much more control over the organization of the games listed.

    This tool is simple and effective, is there a chance that you are still working on it? at the time there was only steam, but today there is a lot of platform to cover, update can be nice ... Anyway thank you for this.

    This isn't something that I knew I needed until I just happened across the file. Excellent concept, and I'm sure that it'll help me clean up my desktop quite a bit. I'll be back to endorse this after i play with it a bit.

    Thank you very much.

      Glad to hear it; thanks for the kind feedback.

      It can be a little bit more work for the initial setup, but I think it's well worth it once everything is in place.

    Did you know, when launching any game with a launcher (eg. Skyrim) while using "Minimize on Launch" GL will minimize then restore itself in the background?
    On another note, a Tray option would be nice, Minimize to Tray, Start Minimized (to Tray), etc.

    Is this still being worked on?

      @Sejian,

      Thanks for trying the Launcher.

      Yes it's still being worked on. I like your idea about the tray option, I will add that to the next version.

      Also, the issue with the launcher restoring itself is a known problem. It occurs with apps like Skyrim which use their own launcher app.

      Best Regards!

    ..huh. Didn't expect to come across something like this here. Seems like a great way to keep track of any non-steam games occupying my hard drives. I've kept a Windows Games Explorer shortcut tucked in underneath Steam on my desktop, but I never actually used it, because, well, it's kind of just a glorified folder. This application now holds a well-deserved spot on my desktop! Thankies, sir!

      @Milespace,

      Glad to hear it!

      It does take some time to build up the games, but I feel it is very worth it. I like this personally because it gives me complete control over the game information.

      If you get it setup, please post a screenshot of your games.

      Best Regards!

    This could be a great tool, but why did you put it on the Skyrim nexus? It won't get a lot of attention, except for Skyrim players. People looking for a tool like this won't be looking on this site.

      I agree; that's honest feedback.

      This is something that I developed on my own due to my personal frustration with the limitations of Windows Games Explorer. I've been using this for some time, and think that it's stable enough to hopefully be used by other folks. So for starters, I chose to upload it on the Nexus site; not sure where else to post it.

      As you can see from one of the screenshots; I'm able to group together several TES games: Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. Some are DOSBox, some Windows, and some require Steam. This is where I find the most value. Because Game Launcher supports all of these, I able to simply click on the game I want to play.

      Since the program is generic, the gamer can obviously branch out from there.

      Best Regards!

      Thank you!
      Finally some hope of an actual game launcher. Steam sux for this IMO - almost as bad as Win Game Explorer.

      So far I really like it but I'm having a problem getting the drag n drop to work. Is there a trick to it? -Win8.1x64

      There is an option to kill Explorer, are you planning on expanding this any? Say something like Razer Game Booster? ie disabling unneeded services and processes -only without all the crap.

      Anyway, keep up the good work, your applications are great!

      @Thos,

      The current drag and drop will only work on the main screen. Basically, from Windows Explorer, drag the .exe file onto the main space in Game Launcher. I have not tried this on Windows 8 yet. Please let me know if it's still not working.

      For the option to turn off unnecessary services and programs, I never considered that, but I really like the idea. I will add that in a future version.

      Anyway thanks for the kind feedback and ideas -- +1 kudos to you!Also, if you get a chance, please post a screen shot of Game Launcher.

      Best Regards!

      Ahhh... Found the drag n drop problem. I don't use Windows file explorer (DirOpus for me). If I use explorer directly it works fine.
      I'll have to add explorer to the launcher so it will be easier to make more for my games. - lol

      Currently I only have a few games added, as soon as I get it populated a bit I'll see what I can do for some screens. If I get the time I'll try to get creative with it.

    Hi ! =)

    I would love to test this program but actually for an "unknown error", I'm not able to download it right now on Nexus, could you provide a mirror link please ? =)

      I was getting a similar issue earlier; maybe because it's new it has not been fully propagated to the various download servers?

      Anyway, I was able to download now.

      Best Regards!

    Nice idea and I definite like the look of it. However, it would be a lot more useful if it would come shipped with editable meta data or even better when it would be able to download that information from an up-to-date database on the net. I can't see me fill out all that stuff for all my games.

    Besides that, you already have tracked the last played time, maybe its possible to track also the complete game time like steam does?

      @NewRaven,

      I'm totally there; I wish there was a source for all game meta data. It does take some time to fill in the information, however it only needs to be done one time per game, and then it's a saved.

      Best Regards!
