I just wanted to let you all know that Torvus Prime has not been abandoned. The pandemic, my job, and having a hurricane for a child is getting in the way of everything. But, slowly and steady wins the race, so they say. But, over the next few weeks I will be devoting paid time to it so that I can get this f**ker back into your hands where it belongs.
On 1 October, I will be opening Torvus Prime up to beta testing and suggestions. I am only allowing 5 slots, as I want to keep the application very close to the vest until I can get everything working the way I want it to. If you have interest in being a prelim beta tester, shoot me an email at [email protected].
That being said, if anyone wants to work WITH me, I need something very specific done. I need the data for the Fallout series and the Elder Scrolls series collated into files of whatever format. If anyone happens to have that data on them, that would kill about 95% of my dev time and I could pump this bastard out by the end of the month easy.
I'd also like to thank everyone for their emails and support throughout this entire process. I'm currently working on my studio's first game while balancing a work and family life and I'm so very tired. lol
You guys stay safe and I'll try to update as often as possible.
ANNOUNCEMENT! (Short Version) So, new version is coming. Finally. Details in the description section. That's the short version of the announcement. The new version will support not only Skyrim, but Skyrim Special Edition, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4. I'd like to figure out a way to support Morrowind, but seeing as it doesn't implement batch files, the only way I can think to do that is to create some kind of link to the Elder Scrolls Construction Set for Morrowind.
But, FEAR NOT! A NEW VERSION IS OFFICIALLY ON ITS WAY!
Long version is that for reasons that I (or my doctors) cannot figure out, I am having seizures and am unable to work. That's the bad news, the good news is that it gives me more time to finally do 2 things; 1. Work on my first independent video game... and... 2. Finally get around to creating the best version of THIS application I can create.
I have several suggestions/gripes to make: 1) have the option for the search function to affect the 'Selected' window; makes searching for things to remove a lot easier.
2) Making the search not case sensitive and having the enter key work would be appreciated.
2.1) I have also noticed that each tab has its own search bar separate from each other tab. This makes it a bit inconvenient when searching for items that share a part of their name but are in different tabs. Either a unified search bar or an 'All Items' tab would remedy this. Whichever is easier for you.
2.2) Have noticed that some weapons are incorrectly listed in the Apparel Pool and not the Weapon Pool
3) most, if not all, of the spell/skill books are not in the 'Books' tab. Don't know if they were omitted on purpose, but having them included would be nice (especially for Legacy of the Dragonborn)
3.5) After going through the Pool lists, there are a lot of items that are not present (Hinges [HF], Locks [HF], other such building materials)
4) Maximize only makes the window border larger and does not affect the contents
5) An option like 'Set Load Order' under 'File would be nice
Overall, Torvus Batch is the best Batch compiler I have been using (granted, it's the only one I use outside of typing the bats myself), but there is definitely room for improvement (No offence).
None taken, the application was essentially written as a "can I do this?" type of application. That said, I've resumed active development. I may restart it from the ground up, I haven't decided. But, I definitely agree with some of your suggestions.
To address some of these concerns;
1. This is something I need clarified, as I don't really know what you mean. 2. Case insensitivity and using the enter key will be implemented on next release. 2.1. Not sure how I feel about that. They are filed that way for reasons of coding simplicity, for example if items/spells are in the same column, there is no coding present to show which console command to use. AddSpell vs AddItem, for instance. 3. The Skill Books are there, I am going to create a list specifically for that. The Spell Tomes, I don't how that one got past me. They'll be included for net release. 3.5 Hinges, Locks and such are in the Smithing tab, at the bottom of the All Items list, also in the Hearthfire Items sub list. 4. I intend on disabling maximize button in the next release. Resizing shouldn't be an option. The tool is as big as feel it should be. Extra space would just be extraneous to me. 5. Set DLC Order... will be under the File menu on the next release.
For number one, I if were to make a all books batch, I would go to the books tab and hit 'Add All' I would then have to manually scroll through the list marked 'Selected' and remove whatever it is I want to remove instead of just typing in the search bar and mass removing from the 'Selected' list.
2.1 is mostly due to having to get things like Bear Claws, Bear Pelts and the such but having to retype the same word in every tab.
3-3.5 Again, I don't mean any offence here, but having items sorted like that seems a bit ridiculous. In game all the books, journals, spell books, skill books, notes and the such go under the Books section, food under Food, misc under Misc and so forth.
As much logistical sense it makes to sort things into their own tab, I for one would look for a book, note, journal, etc. under the 'Book' tab and ingots, ores, pelts and the rest under the 'Misc' tab because that's how the game organizes the items and that is how I would search for them.
Okay, on number one, I get EXACTLY what you mean. Gonna find out a decent way to do that.
Considering the rest of it, after mulling it over a while it might make a better idea to go with a single tab for all, and having 1 master list with ALL items, and then sub lists in a drop box right under the main item pool. You suggested something similar but it never occurred to me to *replace* the rest of the physical item tabs in this fashion.
Don't worry about offending me, if I thought your input was invalid, I'd simply not reply. I really would love to make this app the best it can be so that when the new Elder Scrolls game comes out (provided they make a new one), I can simply alter it to suit the game's unique flow. This is essentially a beta version for the next game.
I can't know what gamers (people like you and me) want from this application if no one tells me. If anything, thank you. Don't worry about offending me, I'll accept any suggestion I can get. If it's good, it's good and I gratefully accept it. If it isn't I wouldn't be so rude as to say so, I'd simply discard it.
New Version of Torvus Reloaded coming in less than a week!
New features: - Enchanting option mentioned by a few users. - Fix for the DLC load orders. - Adding some forgotten items (Spider Scrolls, etc - More out-of-the-box lists.
Also, NOT going to do a Linux port. I simply don't have time.
I really enjoy getting feedback and suggestions from you guys. Also, Torvus is an application I'm grooming and preparing for the next Elder Scrolls game. So, it's simply a matter of compiling the new data and poof. Torvus for TES VI. Which is the answer for the most often question I get asked, "Why are you still working on a utility for a game that is about 5 years old, and thus "old"?"

Sorry for taking so long to reply
