These textures aren't bad, however, when running around Skyrim I can tell when textures from Whiterun are being used. I am seldom a person who notices things like seams or defects, but the main road in Whiterun has a very visible seem going down the middle of it.
The textures are decent, the colors are acceptable, I just wish this had more textures than just Whiterun. All in due time I suppose.
Thanks Jokerine; Looks good. Hope this helps you in your quest to create your personal taste of what Skyrim should look like. I use very few game mods. Am only a novice at modding. Yet I have been able to do a lot of changes in the game that have made the game more visually appealing and with creation kit able to do some tweaking of game settings. Both my home and studio computers are very high end. But have allways believed why add whats not needed. So if I can learn to do this, anyone else certainly can also. Also there is more personal appreciation in game when you play game with changes you personally make. That is the main goal of this upload. Not to boast how great I am, but to stimulate peoples creative juice to do their own thing.
Also in the pictures... are we supposed to be comparing definition, or are we supposed to be comparing the difference in color selection? The fact that the after textures are so different from the before textures makes it hard to make a real comparison.
Is this mod about the difference between HD and non-HD, or is this mod about making things different colors?
A number of 2048x and 4096x textures that some 'high-resolution' packages, while high resolution, have less overall visual quality than some lower-resolution textures. The "you can polish a turd but it's still a turd" problem. The screenshots attempt to elucidate this, and the second picture shows this a bit better than some of the others. The two on the left are high-resolution, the two in the right lower-resolution, but the lower-resolution textures have better overall visual quality (nb: not that they are better to subjective aesthetic taste, simply that they provide a better visual quality).
There is a tendency to assume that "HD = better" and it's simply not true because visual definition does not scale directly with visual quality, so people wind up killing their video cards when they could reduce the video card impact by 25% while reducing their visual experience by < 1% with the proper textures.
So think of this more as a protest-sign to marketing hype than a package you'd want to install and use -- the maps don't match the textures b/c the 'author' didn't pay attention to what he was doing, and I recognize at least 2 of the texture packages that have fragments in here and they aren't credited.
Windows 7 and 8 , 32-bit reserve UP TO 3.2GB of the first 4096MB of RAM, leaving only 896MB for the O/S. Bethesda wrote Skyrim to use UP TO the full 3.2GB to run. 64-bit versions of Win 7 and 8 can address more RAM, but that does not help programs that have a RAM limitation written into their source code. You CAN help Skyrim out by installing a 32GB SSD (ADATA makes a nice one) and moving the Windows paging/swap file from your <C:> drive to the 32GB SSD. Set the minimum paging/swap file size to 24576MB and set the maximum size to 32000MB. That allows Skyrim the cache between 24-32GB of game programming and data in the paging/swap file. That will make a performance difference in Skyrim. It did for me. It also helps if you have a decent video card with AT LEAST 2GB of VRAM. The more VRAM you have, the more graphics load you can transfer from your CPU to your video card's GPU.
It WON'T help that much if your scripts are a mess, tho; that will result in delays and CTDs no matter what you do, tho handling off some of the processing to the GPU (which *should* be faster, IIRC) helps a bit.
IMO, unless you have REALLY overloaded on 4G tex's, one is more likely to have game-breaking issues from script engine conflicts, esp. if you have a few SKSE mods in place "Frostfall has detected that your game's scripting engine is responding too slowly. . ". Conflicting mods become that much harder to detect and debug when log-jammed scripts are involved.
I agree with you Vylayan. This mod is more a representation of what VISUAL quality can be attained with out using HD textures. But only a representation. One must do their own changes for personal taste. The screenshots I took were to show texture changes to wood, stone, carpet, and plaster only. As for not crediting other individuals for any other textures I appologize to them. But is not possible to do sense I select individual textures from many different texture mods. The only person I can give direct credit is AppachiHair mods. All others who have contributed textures I give full credit and thanks. But again the textures I uploaded do not contain other peoples textures only the ones I changed.
When someone wants to make comparison(on the same spots) uses savegames,so first you make for example a save take a picture,go to another spot, save, picture etc. Then installs the other textures and loads each savegame, picture etc...
I have questions: Why non-standart size of textures 2016x2016? Why almost all normal maps don't coincide with textures? Why some textures such indistinct as if they have very low resolution initially? Why some textures have noticeable seams (screenshot # 5)? Why some textures have wrong proportions (wrwoodbeam01.dds, wrwoodbeam02.dds)? Why some textures from other mods? Wrtreealivebark01.dds for example.
Unclear that you wanted to tell these comparative screenshots? Certainly the original is look better.
where did he get these textures from? they clearly not the vanilla ones upscaled and cleaned up. Pretty sure everyone already has Bethesda High res pack, it can't be beat its a beautiful mix of quality, lore friendliness and performance.
You gotta bear in mind - million people million tastes. For me Bethesda's HQ textures are not that good. I much more prefer my own mix of aMidianBorn landscape caves mines armors weapons, AOF mountains, Re-defined dungeons, langley's textures for rest, and on top of it whichever texture is not present filled by texture from Skyrim HD (the mod, not HQ pack). with select textures handpicked and/or edited for my personal use from other sources/games. All neatly packed as bain installers so I can keep track of what overwrites what and can uninstall/reinstall 100% worry-free.
But in the end that's the beauty of modable games - everyone can make his own preference That said, langley02 raises valid concerns in previous post.
I don't use the Bethesda Hi-Res DLC packs due to performance-related issues. I have a high-end system (Intel Core i7 CPU [8 cores @ 3.5GHz apiece], 32GB Corsair Vengeance RAM, 2x EVGA 650 Ti Boost Overclocked Edition, 7.1 Channel Creative Sound Blaster sound card) & yet the game would lag horribly when using the Hi-Res DLC packs in Ultra High Quality. I've since ditched the Hi-Res DLC & run the game in High Quality without any issues. I also use Gamwich's Bethesda Performance Textures, which cut the texture file sizes in half while enhancing quality at the same time. Never looked back.
Official high-resolution textures are optimized only for the vanilla game, if you use more high quality textures for armor, weapons, companions, etc do not be surprised that the game lags
These look snazzy! I would have liked to only have the textures from the inside of Dragonsreach though - would it be too horrible of me to ask if a version with only those could be uploaded?
Open the textures folder and look for these files: wrcastlecarpets01.dds wrcastlecarpets01_n.dds wrcastlecarpets02.dds wrcastlecarpets02_n.dds wrcastlecarvings.dds wrcastlecarvings_n.dds wrplasterdecals.dds wrplasterdecals_n.dds wrplasterint01.dds wrplasterint01_n.dds wrstonefloor01.dds wrstonefloor01_n.dds wrstonefloor02.dds wrstonefloor02_n.dds wrstonemortar01.dds wrstonemortar01_n.dds All these files are used in Dragonsreach. But their also used in other areas of Whiterun hold. Such as plaster walls. Hope this helps.
I have uploaded the original downloaded images used to change Bethsda original textures. So much for UnmeiX's false claim of stealing from other mods makers. This mod of textures is only a representation of what can be attained with high quality Non HD textures. These screenshots dpi were reduced to fit on a 1920x1080 image background then further redused to 360dpi to reduce upload/download size. Also remember your monitor and graphics settings are different than mine, so what your visually seeing may be quite different. My best advise is to do your own re-texture per your personal taste. It's simple to do using Photoshop with Nvidia DDS plug-in. As for comments about miss matches and seams. I made the google images the same pixel width and height as the Bethesda texture. And used the original dpi. So if your seeing mismatch then their original was also a mismatch. And how MANY times are you in an original Bethesda cave, dungeon, castle, etc. that you don't see the blue void beyond the wall, floor or ceiling.
People who are interested in this mod: Cabal released an aMidianBorn Whiterun retex that has correct normals and realistic colors (not oversaturated like Sexy Whiterun, but still detailed) that looks -amazing- in 1k..
Basically, I agree with this "author"'s view, but don't agree with him recycling other people's work without credit, his oversaturated choice of (other authors) textures or his inability to pick the right normals (of other authors). So on 'his' mod, I'm promoting AMB's retextures, as they suffer from none of these problems.
The wood, carpet, and plaster wall textures were gotten from google images. Then open original Bethesda texture in Photoshop. And pasted google image over Bethesda texture. All that was changed of google texture was auto tone and auto lightand contrast. No saturation add or removed. If someone else has like texture. It is only a coincidence. Do a google search yourself. Terms used: "wood floors, plaster walls, old stone, old wood, carpets. Remember to have Nvidea DDS plugin installed to open DDS files. So no I did NOT steal these NON HD textures. And I will be glad to upload the original google images if people wish. So UnmeiX, before you make a false statement, Know what your talking about first

Didn't think of saving at each screenshot. Will remember to do so in future.

Heh, use Mod Organizer and you'll never over-write anything again -- lovely for the sanity and 'overwrites' happen virtually, not physically on disk.
