Is there a way to remove the original road texture's normal map? It isn't really visible during daytime but during the night if I'm nearby a light source it almost makes the stones look like they're still there.
Having the stones still there is intended, they´re just "covered" Removing the normal map caused the whole road to be shiny and reflective. But you can do it by editing the .esp and removing traces of normal maps _n.dds, or maybe installing a flat normal map helps too. Actually, maybe it was the flat normal map which caused it to be shiny. Or bouth... I don´t remember.
It's always bugged me that the roads were lined with stones, so this series of mods is perfect. How can you expect carriages to travel across those bumpy rocks? No wonder Cicero's wagon broke down.
can you make it so it replaces the road texture with dirt I don't want another esp just for this and can you do the same with the ash and snow versions thanks
No, cause the esp also fixes texture set errors, and including texture would not be good for the people with their own one. If you want this mod without fixes and esp you can just copy and rename your landscape textures to the road textures.

Try them out as well.
...but I think this problem specifically only bothers me.

Worked around horses in my younger days and they prefer dirt over rocky or cement roads.
Works and looks great with purity too.....
Nice work...
