It took a tiny bit of understanding but using the AV mod the tigerized sabre is now a random part of my skyrim vs replacing any textures; looks great, thanks
You have my endorsement! Thanks for the textures, now I can tell its a cat and not a bear when I am skulking around in the middle of the night. Not that it really makes a difference, one cat will mess up your day just as bad as 2 or 3 bears.......
DXT1 is not only for Glow maps. DXT1 is good for anything that doesnt use alpha blending. It may be good for textures then, depending on which textures though.
@xirishx: thanks! I randomly got the idea as I thought they always looked uninspiring. The textures I used were actually both real photo textures of a tiger and white tiger. The stripes didn't come out as they are on the real tiger of course . I was surprised when I did a search that no one had done this either. I'm sure there are plenty of people on here that could make it look much better so maybe we'll see something more true to life soon....
@morpheus: thanks for having my back...again. Fixed the file res issue. Thanks for all that work, I will keep them at DXT5.
Tested all compression methods, with your textures, spawning 1 sabre cat at a time.
Baseline is the uncompressed 16 MB file. DXT1 - Removes the alpha channel, even though I have no idea what the alpha channel is supposed to do. In game quality is fine, didnt see much difference. File is 2 MB. DXT3 - Keeps the alpha channel, with minor changes so that it isnt as intense. In game quality is identical to uncompressed, didnt see ANY difference. File is 4 MB DXT5 - Keeps the alpha channel unchanged. In game quality is identical to uncompressed, didnt see ANY difference. File is 4 MB.
The way I see it, you could very well use DXT1, or DXT5, not going to notice the difference. DXT3 doesnt offer any better performance, since the file is 4 MB (just like DXT5), so DXT5 should be just better than 3. DXT5 is 4 MB, which isnt a big deal, especially since you arent going to be fighting more than 2 cats at the same time. I rarely even see 2 cats close to each other.
One more thing. In the file you uploaded, Sabre cat is 2048x2048, and Sabre cat Snow is 1024x1024. Might want to change that.

Alpha channel in the normal map is used to hide textures. In the bump map, it's used for specular (the, oh shinny, effect).
It may be good for textures then, depending on which textures though.
DXT 5 - for Textures and Bump (Normal) maps
DXT1 (No Alpha) - for Glow maps
