After a long time I released a manual version of the mod, so you can add the Sense of Smell by console. At the moment I've killed my Skyrim game and couldn't revive it xD I made 3.1a for the compability between mods who are changing the "khajiitrace".
It should be easy to install it. I couldn't try it but all you have to do is to search for senseofsmell in the console and add it with. player.addspell (ID)
I will look up to fix my broken game and continue this mod^^ My latest idea is to decrease the duration so you can only see the "smell" for a few seconds.
I opened a forum topic for ideas of future updates, you can comment other ideas and present yours. Then I will decide which ideas will become a content of the mod
Thank you, for your answer. Unfortunately I moved on long time ago. It's been like 5 years since I touched skyim last time. There aren't any plans to continue playing it, nor modding it. I am sorry. Maybe someone likes the idea and wants to modify it.
When I turn into a werewolf I lose the ability. It adds itself back to my power list when I convert to normal, but I have to re favorite and rehotkey it. Any ideas for a workaround?
Well, it is a race abilitiy for khajiit. You have to equip it like a nightvision. The effect holds on for a limited time (30 or 60 seconds, cant remember), after this time you have to "smell"/activate it again.

I'm having this issue as well right after trying it out. I'm using the NMM English version. I do have other mods that give my khajiit character other abilities (Eg. Amazing Race Tweaks). Could that be the problem?
If you got mods which change something to a race you should check the optional version 3.1a of my mod. Then you need to follow the instructions on my description to add the ability via console.
I am sorry to tell you, that I am currently not working on this mod any more. I thought the Spell Standalone version could solve the problem with the whole compability-trouble. Unfortunately nobody could tell me if it worked, but at my test save it worked on every race.
Try following: Open Console search for sense take the id of the spell Sense of Smell (in my case F400D66) now use this command: player.addspell F400D66 Tell me if it worked, this should solve the incompability between mods
